Would New Year's Day be a bad idea for second time out?

Went out with the Cotswold last week, first time for me and horse. We loved it. Had no brakes (see post below!) but horse was pretty well behaved all told. However I've been warned he'll probably be more of a handful second time out, as he'll know what to expect, and he did come home totally wired.

There is a meet local to me on New Year's Day, I don't have any other meet details yet. Would it be a bad idea to take him then? I understand New Year is not as hectic as Boxing Day (have decided not to do that one!) but would it be better to wait for a quieter weekday meet? Thoughts and advice? Thanks :)

If your hunt is anything like mine it will be quietish as they will all be nursing hangovers!
In general they are quieter than Boxing day but can have lots of children out.
Best thing to do is ask someone who has been out on NYD how quiet it was.

Tends to be a shortish day here, might be worth giving the secretary a call for the gen. There may be some meets planned for over the festive period that won't be quite as high profile. The Children's holiday meet is usually a lovely one and most hunts will be okay with you attending that.

Have fun

Irish what was your experience?! I am not sure about having loads of kids around. We were very fortunate this week in that it was all experienced riders and hunters apart from us. This meant that any shenanigans we had/did were avoided and forgiven in the nicest humour. However I could see us squashing a pony and child quite easily! I'm sure he'll settle after a few times more, but I do expect next time to be challenging :)

well here, any meets in school holidays/'big days' such as new year are just the most popular...and so perhaps not the best for a horses 2nd time out! but may well depend on your hunt :)
