Someone who, for no fault of their own ended up out of horses and wanted to get back in the saddle (after only a few months) after having horses since before they remember, hacking, hunting, competing and bringing on youngsters. Confident and able...

Own transport, works shifts at their current job so can do a few days through the week, some weekends etc.

How do you find someone who would take someone on like this? It isnt a "job" or career move, just a hobby until they are in the position to get their own again at some point.
Not looking to loan or share really, more help out someone with a few horses. I dont like the idea of borrowing and "blame".

Its not your usual non-horsey family person, nor your more mature "getting back in the saddle" candidate.

I dont feel I would be able to volunteer at an RDA, and riding schools (and lessons) are a little bit of an alien concept. Horses were kept at home so not familiar with livery yards either.

Im feeling lost and need some form of routine and normality! :S

If you are not looking to share or loan are you looking to be paid? If yes try people with private yards in your area who may need a hand over winter, although you may find more people need bringing in, mucking out, etc. than riding. However if your riding skills are very good you may also be able to pick up some rides, mainly through word of mouth. You might want to look into insurance for all of this.

advertise yourself:D
put a nice ad up in tackrooms/feed stores and fbook regional pages
1 good pic of you riding well
A brief desciption of your abilities
Short outline of your offer of work to ride
If you give it a zazzy title i don't know ummm "Are you struggling to get everything done in winter!" type thing, i'm sure someone this time of year would value 2 or 3 afternoons a week poo-picking or feeding or whatever in exchange for rides. It's all about putting yourself out there, you can smile and chat to 10 people before 1 person will say "ok so" so Good Luck, i spent years working for rides, I use to take deep breaths and just ask with a nothing to lose attitude.

Yorkshire, possibly looking to move next year depending where my BF gets a job.

I dont really want to pay or be paid, like I said I just want to be involved in horses again. Im in a new area (other side of the city) so not really aware of any local yards (google isnt throwing much up)

Ah, shame so far away. A poster was asking how to go about finding someone like you the other day. However, they're the other end of the country from you.

I am looking for a sharer (although would like some financial support really, is this not an option?) for my horse. I'm in between Leeds and Bradford too...

I do this - for a local family who used to hunt and P2P, now compete ODE. They always have something needing exercise and welcome help with chores. Ask around local yards - even those who employ a groom can sometimes appreciate an extra (free) pair of hands.

Quick update...

Stuck an ad up online and had a few replies. Went to one yard yesterday, sounded alright, horse was fine on the ground and no warning signs. Hopped on and left the yard to be met with just bolshy nappy behaviour. No yielding no forwardness nothing. Got another 800yards where the sodding thing having not got away with stopping, spinning or trying to buck decided to drop in the middle of the road and roll me off. Bruised and grazed knees for me and a bit stiff but otherwise ok. It just stood there (coulnt motivate its fat arse to run off!) so I walked it inhand back to the yard where it was leaping off the ground bucking and squeeling lunging with teeth striking out the lot.

Turns out the last "rider" told them to put it on blue chip, conditioning cubes and various other feed to get it ready to show. But didn't actually ride it apparently.

Who are these experts, supposedly on judging panels the whole caboodle wouldn't know a show horse if it bit them on the arse!!! On to the next one!

Just a shame your not closer, i was advertising for someone to come & ride my Arab, as much riding as they wanted to do, i wasnt looking for a contribution towards his keep, i just wanted to find someone in a similar situation as yourself, wrong time of year sadly./ So ive knocked his shoes off & will let him have a couple of months off instead.

I wish you lived near me! We have 3 hunters in work and a couple of youngsters we're bringing on! Not enough hours in the day for us...
