Would someone care to condition score my horse?

I think I'm getting a bit paranoid about him!! He seems to look thin and fat at the same time and different every time I look at him!!!

Munching..

:)

It's best to judge them without tack on and with them stood up and still.

I find with Be (I am constantly stressing about her weight ) that she looks much fatter with her head down grazing in the field (like that first shot you've got of Badger) than she does stood up square.

I find taking stood up square photos on a regular/weekly basis helps me to monitor her weight best, as day to day it's sometimes harder to keep track of whether they are going up or down.

Thanks - I think he's pretty ok with all the condition point, points. Just don't understand why he gets his big beer belly!!! You can feel his ribs, not that easily but I want him to have plenty on because I know he'll lose it all in winter when he starts hunting!

Could it be to do with cribbing do you think?

I think it's more that he's deep chested rather than beer bellied though he does look a little cresty in a couple of the pix. In the profile one where you say he looks preggers, his hip bones can be clearly seen and the girth isn't obviously digging into layers of blubber, ie I can't see a pad of fat behind the shoulder or saddle area. Know what you mean about looking thin and fat at the same time! Handsome lad!!!!!

He hasn't got a "cresty" neck - no where near, bless him.

But I am confused as how to feed the boy.

PS but he has a BIG front end and shoulder!! He's a big boy.. just how I like em!

i think he has enough weight on, just weak over the top and butt!! looks to me like he needs more muscle on the backed to match the front end, does he work nicely through from behind and not just drag himself with the front end???

He looks fine to me. In his ridden work though he is dropping his back and not using his abdominal muscles which is why he looks like he has a big belly. You're doing the same with your back - it's very hollow, you're just too slim to show a big tum when you do it!
Have a look at the Balance International webpage, they have a lot of information about posture, particularly in relation to saddles.
