Hi all.
I have a dilemma. My pony is at the moment on loan to a local high school where the children learn stable managment etc and get to have lessons and rides on her. Now she has been here for a while and from my cousin who attends the school and her friends she seems really happy. I am writing this as I would really love to go up and see how she is and what they do with her. I would also love to take her out on a hack as I know she loves hacking and they will not do with this with her at the school. I am thinking about writing an email to the school or giving them a call regarding this but I am part of me feels like this would be being cheeky as she is on loan to them so essentially in their care..
Thoughts please??

did you have a loan agreement drawn up before she left? did it state that you had 'visting rights' as such? you could always just email asking if you could come and see her and perhaps take her for a ride - afterall you are the owner, however prepare yourself if they say no. good luck x

I wouldn't say it would be cheeky, I would imagine they think themselves lucky to have the little star and would of course let you come and ride. I loan a horse and I offer the owner regularly to ride him (though she never takes me up on it). no harm in asking and I would be very surprised if they said no. :)

I don't see why not. When I had a pony on loan for daughter I was quite happy for them to visit, & if they'd been small enough wouldn't have minded an odd ride if they checked the day with me.

I don't think we have a loan agreement drawn up . I will have to ask my dad about that one. I do appreciate that it is a school and they have to be careful who they let in and etc but i work with children and have had all the check. It would just be lovely to see how she is doing. I adore the pony she was and is a great character and I really do miss her. I just don't want to seem really cheeky or that I do not trust how they care for her. I probably am being over cautious and like you said they can only say no. Thanks for you advice now to think how to word the email my head is not with it.

Its not cheeky to ask to see pony - indeed it is advisable to go and make regular visits - shows you care etc
Bit cheeky to ask to ride tho - they may not have the right insurances for you to take pony out or ride on their property.

Drop them an email/letter, saying

'Dear School head-teacher-person.
You currently have my pony on loan to you and I'd like to make a routine visit to see her.
Please can you advise me when is a suitable time/day for this. I am normally free on xyz days.
If it is at all possible during my visit, I would like to ask if its not too much trouble to be able to take pony on a short hack as a one-off event.
Many thanks

Try something like that :)

Thanks guys you have all been a great help . I have never loaned a horse before and when I have loaned I haven't been visted by any of the owners so just wanted to put my mind at rest to make sure I didn't sound too cheeky :). Thanks again
