I brought a new pony last Sunday, and it turns out she is nothing more than a bully! She is constantly telling all the other ponies off, they try to stay away from her but the otherside of the field isnt even far enough away from her to keep her happy! and basically ive got to the point now where I dont want it anymore, its not fair on the other horses, so i have a theory which may teach her a lesson...

I currently have the horses and ponies split up (there usually together but theres too much grass in the new field for tiny people at the moment), and im tempted to put here in with the horses for a little while as all four of them are in no way shape or form bullies, but will have no worries about telling her where to go if she behaved like this to them (im sure you know the sort, will be everybodies best friend, but god help them if they wind them up enough!)... its very tempting, but seems kinda harsh... whats your opinion?

Personally I would leave her where she is as it sounds like she is defending herself albeit in an aggressive manner! My Sec B is like this until she settles as is the Sec A I have at livery. They just go in for the kill! I'm sure it is about defence! My 16.2hh just seems to look a them with disdain!

In fact she is quite horrified! This pipsqueak charging at her!

The only reason I would move her is if she was a danger to the others. Hope that makes sense!"!!

You only bought her last Sunday! She is still trying to settle in, so either section a bit off for her alone, or just leave her where she is and be patient.

Remember she may not be a bully, she might just be feeling blown away by it all and extremely defensive. You need to let them settle. Give them lots of hay in piles round the field and a few water buckets so they dont all have to congregate round one small area.

Agree with Jaylen, give them all time to sort themselves out, you hav to have top dog and there's always one at the bottom too, its perfectly natural.

But yes, it can takes weeks before the dust settles a bit, as long as there not really booting the hell out of each other.

A week is no time, just give her more time to settle and let them sort out their pecking order - unless she is proving dangerous to the others.

I wouldn't worry too much if she is unshod behind, unless she is cornering other ponies and really kicking the *** out of them. They will soon all settle down and moving her may make her more unsettled and aggressive. Even if it worked she would go right back to being a bully as soon as she was in with the ponies again, so if you do move her with the horses it would need to be a permanent thing.

Good luck with her. I'm sure in a week or two it will settle down and you will be enjoying her.
