Would this type of arrangement appeal?

We currently have our horse in a field that we rent with another lady, whose pony gets looked after by my mum as if she were her own, without any extra cost. Mum buys hay etc and charges the other lady. She's not been to see her pony in four months - pony is rideable but currently just a companion.

We've just been told pony is being sold.

So, my question is, do you think our type of arrangement would appeal to anyone else? Not necessarily exactly the same, we wouldn't mind if the other person wanted to come up and ride, etc. The only down sides are that our horse can't eat hay so would have to be separated during winter, and we can only have two on the land so when one goes out, the other is shut in on its own for an hour. The current two have coped very well with it.

What do you think? Or am I better off making myself poor by getting a companion of our own..?

I know half a dozen people who would bite off your hand....and then probably munch up your arm!
So yes, it will appeal to many I should imagine....particularly to someone with an older pony that they are struggling for time with.

A loan from a rescue centre would suit, and not all of them are old.
I had one years ago that couldn't be ridden because of a very bad sway back, it was only 5, livid on fresh air, apart from the cost of trimming a few times a year, wormer and hay, he was very cheap to keep.

We can't get another or a loan because we can't afford two. I'm hoping someone will put up with the being shut in on its own thing, and us having most of the control, for what is essentially very cheap full grass livery. I just don't know if the cons outweigh the pros!

Thanks for the input so far :)

Bettyboo222 - we're in Wiltshire (/ Hampshire border)!

I'm quite encouraged by the response here - thanks for all the replies :)

I was quite worried that I'd have to end up crippling myself by buying something small and cheap, or loaning. It seems the pros should outweigh the cons! :)
