Would ulcers be causing this?

My little horse is quick and sensitive - he is an exracer but is 8 now and not ran since he was 4.

He had a spell of naughty spooky behaviour at start of winter where vet considered scope for ulcers but scope done and grade 1 noted. Advised to change diet. His behaviour improved.

While schooling at home this past week he's been strongly objecting to my left leg aids, he is very forward thinking but positively slows and curls back when I ask him to move away from left leg, bucks into canter on left rein. No problems moving away from leg on right rein and no bucking into canter. Physio out this week and no problems found except his usual slight tense area behind saddle - we manage this carefully with massage pad and long warm ups/cool down. She mentioned possibility of ulcers as he was doing a lot of tail swishing when she was touching his left side and trying to nip when asked to move over where leg would be when on board.

So I came across a post on another thread about pressure points and I've heard this before. Someone also mentioned left side being more of a problem? Is this the case with any horses you have had ulcers in the past?

I'm calling vet on Monday to see what they think. Any thoughts?

If you can Google ULCERS IN HORSES on that page look at ulcer diagnosis by MARK DEPAOLO , sorry I am not sure how to do a link ,but worth a look .

Thanks for replies. Vet feels that it would be worth trial of gastroguard and see if behaviour stops then take it from there.
Thanks for reading references. I will certainly have a look :)

It depends where the ulcers are tho :-(( Mine was scoped & had grade 2 pyloric ulcers, did a month on GG & antib's & the anseptin or whatever it's called, & it made NO difference. Vet wouldn't believe me, rescoped & sure enough, NO difference. We are now trying GP.

Mine is 9 & raced 18 times, reasonably successfully, and retired at 5 or 6. He is mostly out 24/7 with constant access to hay & is fed Healthy Tummy, Rowan Barbary mash (the red label one) & gets a bucket of Alfa A overnight.
