We have terrible midges around us, today they are so bad I thought it only fair to keep mum and foal stabled. A Shame when the weather is glorious. I normally use fly rugs and fly masks but as mum now has a foal I've resorted to using fly creams/sprays but not as effective. I feel cruel putting a mask on mum and not foal but wasn't sure if a) you can get foal sized ones!! b) whether it is advisable to use one on a foal.

Whilst you can definitely get foal sized ones I would never ever use one on them as not only are they prone for getting themselves in trouble anyway and don't need any added assistnace but their skin is usually soo soo sensitive that I imagine a mask would end up rubbing.

You can get foal sized ones. I have never used them. I just bring them in for the day, it's no fun for them when the bugs are biting so they may as well doze the day away in the cool.

Thank you for your replies, this was also my opinion but I wondered if I was being over cautious and they were widely used, I managed to spray fly spray on a sponge today and wipe it all around his face to protect him, He's also figured out mummys tail is a good fly swatter!!!!

They do quickly figure out that trick with mum's tail!!! LOL
The Car Day and Martin Fly gel is also really good to use on their faces....I tend to put it faces and aroudn umbilical stumps and sheaths as soo sensitive under there.
