Would you ask for contribution?

Its early days but one of my friends is learning to ride on one of my horses, and is sounding very keen, even mentioned wanting to do it 2/3 days a week - was just wondering if any of you guys would ask for some money towards shoes n such if it does get to that stage?! And how much you'd ask for eg per month?
I'm happy for her to ride, she's lovely and it's nice for me to have some company, but just wondered what ya'll thought

I dont think asking money towards shoeing would cause any insult, especially if she wants to ride so often. I used to have a friend ride one of my ponies who insisted on paying for the farrier in return as it worked out so much cheaper then lessons.....
 
well yes I would! easiest way to work out the costs is to work out your total cost (inc shoes/insurance) per month and then convert that to a daily rate. If that seems too high and you are not comfortable with it, then work out where you do feel happy.

I would just be straight and when she mentions this again - ask her was she thinking on lines of a part share? and suggest you do this on a trial basis so she doesn't feel she has cornered herself? see what money she would suggest but if you have worked out your costs then you will have an idea/justification of costs.
 
Its sort of a "How long is a piece of string" question really. Depends how much your horse costs you, what she gets to do when she rides, if you actually teach/supervise her constantly, if she helps out with any of the yard work etc.

Definitely a contribution towards shoes is fair, and if she wants to make it a regular 2/3 time a week thing, then depending on the above variables, I'd probably ask for around £15-£20 a week.
