So... i'm a bit grumpy at the mo, due to housemoving/pregnancy stresses... so am willing to accept i may be over reacting here. feel free to tell me!

so... here's quick history. i have two neds at livery. Raff my horse, and Iggle the shetland, his companion/my toddler's pony. YO has little baby, let's call her 'x'... she's just turned one yr old. My horses have their own field, which is seperate from all the other fields. own gate etc, no other horses in there. they are 100% DIY.

yesterday, YO tells me that Raff doesn't like Iggle getting lots of attention... i wondered what she was doing giving him attention as it would mean being in their field, which i didn't think she did. but i didn't think much of it.... until she said

"we were taking photos of 'x' on Iggle and Raff kept trying to get in the way"

she had got a camera, gone into my field, and sat her 12month old baby on Iggle to take photos...

is that ok? or shouldn't she do that?

opinions?!

Nah, shouldn't do that

Just hold onto the thought that soon (and I'm not defining 'soon'

), you'll have your own place

. When our yard is being, um, interesting, it's the thought that I hold onto

YO's horse attacked my OH the other day whilst he was trying to get from feed room to field (she lets them loose on the yard). her horse kicked him, and reared up trying to strike him with front feet too... everytime something like this happens, we say "can't wait to have them at home"

I'd be annoyed, very annoyed. Just because she owns the field you rent, doesn't give her the right to play with your horses, however innocently. I would be gobsmacked if someone told me they had been taking pictures of kids on my horses

I, however, am a total grumpalumpa.....

I would also have been really annoyed what right does she have its your pony at the end of the day if she wants one for her baby tell her to go out an buy one

Grumpalump my a**.
Where would she stand (or you for that matter) if Iggle was to startle and dumped her 12mth kiddy on the floor?
I would be putting it in writting that NOBODY is to touch your horses without your consent unless there is some kind of emergency!
Stupid woman!

(her not you obviously!

i am ever thankful that my horse is not on livery....

The one time he was, he got really ill- tied up and then repeated mild colic which the vet put down to be environmental stress, not my management of him. They were lovely people, but their set up did not suit my horse and for the foreseeable future he is back home and fingers crossed, here to stay.

To the OP- I would be furious if a YO thought they could do whatever they liked with my horse, if he was on DIY.

exactamundo! i think she'd genuinely be annoyed with me if that had happened!

also, i'm very protective of Raff, and really hate to think that she was doing anything in HIS field that annoyed him. he's lovely, kind and gentle.... and she implied he was being aggressive with Iggle cos they were giving him attention. that's not the Raff i know, so it really bugs me that she's done something to make him like that.

oh, and also it seems she had her husband and the other livery with her. like a fricking day trip to Raff's field!

totally agree with you being annoyed especially as you are on 100% diy - she has no right being in there with your horses. I had a shetland staying as a livery at mine for a while and I wouldnt have dreamed of putting my children on it!

Roll on getting that house sorted and having the boys at home ... you will never ever regret it! I have just been out in the dark in my jimjams to give my lot a carrot - it is so peaceful and grounding just being with them.

Certainly wouldnt be happy, other people/children only allowed on our horses at our invitation, that goes for the 11hh pony up to the 18.2 warmblood (but that is by VERY special invitation only!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

No, she has no right to put her 12 month old baby on your horse, or pony!!!

I would be very annoyed...then again, I would only be living up to my "Stroppy Old Woman" tag!!!

I would tell her that, unless it is by your express permission, no one is to sit on/ride/ or feed/ handle your horse or pony!!

grumpalumpa - loving that word

And no, that is not on and I would be annoyed too.

This happened to me when i was at a small private yard! 3 stables etc. they used to do my shetland in the mornings as i was at school. One day, they gave me a photo of my pony, down their driveway by their front gates, with their grandson on! (would have been 4 at the time?)
I was mad but there wasnt much i could do really, in the end he got into horses a bit and i took him to some shows, got paid to baby sit him (even though he was in his grandads garden near the stables

)
I was only maybe 11 at the time and didnt really want to upset the guy who owned the house as i had a good deal there.

Nope, I agree... although in principal I don't mind anyone at the yard talking to my boy, as I like them all - and like him getting interaction (they don't titbit)... at my old yard, I had my boy with my shetland (currently out on loan)... very small yard, one of the other girls asked me if I would mind her niece having a sit on shettie - I said fine, no problem etc... when I left the yard many months later, I found out she'd been giving lessons to various kids (and charging) in the day while I was at work!! I was sooo mad! Never did anything as obviously I left, but... GRRRR

I'm neither pregnant not moving (and currently not even a horse owner) but I have to say that I would be fuming!!! Why should a shetland be treated differently to Raff or another horse? I'm sure they wouldn't put a family member on them, no matter how cute it looked.

Poor Raff too, he deserves a load of cuddles and polos.

You are right to be angry about some one messing with your animal when you are not there but I would also be fuming that she lets her horses wander the yard unsupervised! Its an accident waiting to happen - why do people take liveries on and then expect to run a yard like its their own little kingdom? If you want to do what you d**n well please don't have paying customers on your premises!
mad.gif

and what the hell are they doing taking piccies of YOUR horses....sure they have to have your permission?
I'd be fuming too....like the others I'm also very protective over my animals esp my horses....if asked then not a prob....just keep thinking bout your move...lucky you...and i hope it all sorts it self out soon for you!

Oh the joys of what YO thinks is their right!! Firstly, if the yard is a business for her then it is illegal to leave horses wondering around loose on the yard with 'customers' doing their own things... what if there was a child?? Could be unimaginable.
As for the field visiting, are these people completely dim?? Sounds like they are asking for trouble. They should NOT go in to the field unless they have permission or if there was an emergancy. I don't think a toddler riding a shetland is an emergancy!! Obviously these people have more money than sense!!? I'd be mad as mad can be if i were you!
