well i turned up to see a welsh section D stallion for stud this morning and he was perfect in every way... except he was not the height advertised, gutted

He is advertised as 14.2hh but he was 14hh, if he was advertised at 14hh i would not have gone, its 14.2hh minimum i am looking for
This is too much of a difference being almost 5'6 14.2hh is the minimum height i wanted
would you be a bit put out if the horse was shorter than advertised?

the search goes on! not having much luck
so if you know of anyone with a welsh section D stallion in bristol please pm me, thanks

Ugh, that is gutting. When I was horse hunting I said nothing under 16hh, and ended up buying Oshk, who was 15.2/15.3hh when I bought him, my mum thought he would be too small as I was still growing aged 15, but he is the best thing I have ever bought.

I would be a bit miffed but i have a 14.1 section d and im just over 5'6 and i dont think im way too big. Good luck in finding the right one!!

you are very slim so dont look big at all
my mare is 14.2 so i wanted a stally of 14.2hh as i figured worst height reached may be 14.1hh as it were
such a shame he was a cracker and fab temperament but a smidge too small to cross with my girl

Where (just approximate location - no names or anything) was the stallion? There is a lady who I have visited several times who breeds D's, and I wonder if it something to do with D breeders that somehow affects the judgement with regards to the height of their horses. There were several of her horses she told me were 15hh - but they were no where near as big as my 15hh mare at home.

It does frustrate me when horses aren't advertised at their true height.

Doesn't cost much to buy a measuring stick!

If he was a nice stallion in other respects I would not let 2 inches have put me off though. You have a 50% chance the foal will take after its dam after all.
As I get older, size is less and less of an issue for me. My stallion is 14.1- ish and plenty big enough for me...closer to the ground, nimble and handy. And I'm 5'6. He rides like a big horse, plenty of neck in front and big stride.
Bigger isn't better. It's the heart and the brain that count, that and soundness.
In the western disciplines plenty of big men ride 14 h horses all the time and don't look under-horsed...

I think I would be annoyed if I had travelled to see a horse that wasn't the height it was advertised. When I was looking, because I am so short, I specifically asked sellers to measure the horses for sale I was looking at because there would be no point me going to view it if it was too big.

In your situation though, I guess it would depend how big the mare was as to whether it being 14hh would be that much of a big deal. If he's perfect in every other way, I guess i t depends what would matter most to you so think you'd have to have a think about that. Good luck, exciting times ahead!

my mare is 14.2 and i would like a stallion of 14.2 so i would then hope i was guaranteed at least 14.1
i feel that i would only get 14h with this stallion, shame really
i am not bothered as such by getting a big horse but just 14.2hh ideally maybe a smidge bigger
