I have been umming and arring over the last couple of weeks, about wether or not to advertise Ruby for share. The extra money will come in handy and I have been so busy with work at the moment, Ruby isn't getting ridden as much as she should. But I am not sure if anyone would want to share her, so please be honest. If it wasn't for her injury, I am sure someone would want to share her.

Pros:

Hacks alone or in company
Not exciteable
Doesn't buck or rear
Not strong
Good on the ground
Loves to jump
Sensible

Cons:

Can be spooky to hack so needs a confident rider
Can be grumpy on the ground and occasionly nip
Is recovering from a stilfe injury so is only in lightwork at the moment
Might never recover from her injury, so may only ever be capable of light work
Can't be jumped at the moment, due to injury (although she can, if she recovers and is sound enough to jump, as she loves it)
Green to school (I am re-schooling her myself with RI help)
In the school can only go on the track, as due to injury, circles are a bit too hard for her at the moment
Can't be lunged (again due to injury)

She may make a full recovery and if this is the case I am happy for the sharer to school and jump and go on faster hacks. But for now, the sharer will not be allowed to go on fast hacks, not allowed to jump, can school but they can't circle or over do it (it's never a problem as we always have the school to ourselves.

Do you think that there is someone out there who would like to share her?

There probably is - but in your shoes, my concern would be would you be able to supervise/keep an eye on what they are doing? While she is only in light work I mean? I'd be tempted to continue with the reschooling and more importantly the rehab from injury until you know what she is going to be OK to do?

Have you thought about advertising for a sharer but not expecting a financial contribution unless/until horse is sound and can do more.
Would possibly solve the problem of her not getting enough work during recovery but also help attract someone.

I've done that. Had a lovely student with horses at home but missed being around horses in term time. She was wonderful in rehabbing a horse after injury. I didn't ask for a contribution though.

If she's a safe hack then I'm sure someone confident but wanting a quieter life would be interested. I've certainly met a few experienced older people who if wanting a share would be ideal.

Thank you for your replys.

When I say lightwork, she is ok to walk, trot and canter. But she obviously can't go out on mad hacks, galloping everywhere. She can also walk, trot and canter in the school. The vet said I need to excerise her, to make the joint stronger. But I am stuggling to ride 4 times a week, with my work at the moment.

I also don't know how long she will stay sound for.

I was thinking perhaps an older person, who wanted a safe hack and enjoy a quieter life. I would prefer an adult anyway, due to the location of the yard (it's very quiet and more often then not I am there alone and wouldn't feel comfortable with a child up there alone)

I'd be interested in it, if I wasn't already half committed to another share pony.
I'm not much of a jumper and lots happier just happy hacking and schooling.
I'm sure you'd find lots of people along the same lines as myself. :)

Oh this is a shame, this was just what I had been after! But I am now helping someone else on this forum with hacking out her horses at weekends.

I am sure there will be a responsible rider who would be more than happy to come down for a few hours over the weekend/or evenings to help with the gentle exercising (This is exactly what I was looking for - but its like finding rocking horse poo!)

Just out of interest where are you based in Essex?

Was interested to read this as its exactly what my mare is like and i didnt think anyone would be interested in sharing her. got some food for thought now!

I would have loved your offer, being older and not confident having been away from horses for years.
I have a 9yr old who could do with more work, we mooch around the moors, I will only canter uphill so I know I can stop him, when we go to the beach, my daughter rides him, as he justs wants to go but having Arthritis I am scared off falling off, same on pleasure rides, we get a fair way round before I will let him canter.
Basicly, not everyone wants to gallop around. Gorgeous horse by the way

I'm another one with this arrangement... A lovely, residential student at the local university rides my easy going but very green TB out and does a bit of schooling with him term time and I've recently found another young lass who's home is local and is away during term time so she's taking over for the summer months... They're both confident and competent enough to cope with him being so green but handle him very lightly and aren't speed freaks so I'm happy with them taking him out...

I don't charge either of the girls... They're doing me a big favour whilst keeping themselves in the saddle...

Alternatively, maybe an older person such as myself - but with more confidence as he can be a bit spooky hacking... :D There might be someone who's working/personal life means they can't commit to having their own but would be happy to have a flexible share and contribute towards his upkeep... :)

As an older rider, if I didn't have my own horse, that's exactly the sort of horse I'd enjoy sharing. My idea of heaven is hacking round the lanes and bridleways, quite calmly these days, seeing what people are growing in their gardens!!

I'd be tempted to advertise your horse in that vein, appealing directly to older riders. I'd be surprised if you don't get a taker.

My mum would love something like this. She is all for the quieter life and point blankly refuses to even entertain the idea of getting on my tb, hence why we are getting the 2nd neddy as a family pony

Thank you :)

I am not fussed about schooling. If they want to school then thats fine. But if they want to hack thats fine too. I am currently re-schooling her myself anyway, so would actually prefer someone to hack out instead.

I think I will stick up some adverts. Thanks again.

i don't think you'll have a problem finding a sharer but i would definitely be looking for someone older who wants quiet riding rather than a teenage speed freak:)
