After my earlier post on where to look online i've come across this ad on a random website!

http://www.mobiya.co.uk/view/amgdpdjaj

Would this ad make you want to look, does anything sound off etc? Any advice would be great, i know i'm on quite a low budget and probably will have trouble but you never know when a bargain will come along, plus i'm not after a competition horse just one to have fun with!

i suspect hes green, hence the price. she has said she hasnt had time to educate him. and she has never hacked him on the roads. that would put me off straight away as a traffic proof horse is a must.

she says he hacks alone and in company, yet she is surrounded by busy roads which she doesnt ride on, and has got no transport. so how does she know he hack alone and in company?

if your experienced with bringing on green horses and dont mind introducing him to traffic then go take a look at him. bargains can be had.

Gosh, you lot are sooo suspicious. Why not take a look at face value? If I'd bred a horse and not had the time/inclination to do much with it, this is the ad I'd write. Not everyone is dishonest, you know!

My mare cost £700 as a green 5 yr old. She's the most genuine horse I have ever had :D

I have had to put the work in she had a few issues but we hack out with much older been there done that horses who act up terribly and she just ignores them :D

Definately worth a look.

Suspect it will be very green but as you say someone's lucky no reason why it's not you .
I got a bargain last year saw the add did not ring for ages as I thought it must be lame or something but it was a lovely girl selling her horses of a life time for awful sad reasons I think she was just so desperate to tell you everything he did it put people off .
He's a great horse a steal at £1500 the first horse I have ever got and not needed the dentist the back lady etc etc I am having a ball with him.
Ring go and see with a open mind in the case of my horse she really needed to sell.
Oh it exciting I love other peoples horse hunts so much more fun and less stress that your own.

Definately worth a look, on paper he sounds lovely. The pessimist in me says 'watch out'!! You hear of so many stories.... i.e has he already failed a vetting??? Questions that need answers which you won't get if you don't enquire!! Good luck.

I don't think his price is so unrealistic, tbh. It's a midget of a 6yo TB that has done nothing. TBs are ten a penny.
Above doesn't mean that he isn't lovely, btw, just that market is as it is and combined with the need for a quick sale - £1K doesn't seem wrong at all :)

If I was looking then I'd probably go and have a look ... like you said you dont have to bring him home! I'm a sucker for little projects :D

The wording sounds reasonably knowledgeable which is a start.

'but lovely and forward at shows' might mean just that, or he might get a bit over-excited, but with a young TB with few outings this is to be expected.

The price is low but they are generally, especially for a horse that is going to be hard to test in the ways you would like before buying. You could perhaps ask for a trial or LWVTB (that said, if I were a seller at this price, I wouldn't agree for lots of genuine reasons).

Can't harm to go and see him or ask for some ridden photos etc.

Sounds like he is green for his age so perhaps he is more like a 4 year old and you would expect such a young horse to get a tad excited in new situations, e.g. shows etc. If you would enjoy working with a young horse then take a look and see what you think.

The only thing that would personally put me off is the lack of experience with traffic because if he did turn out to be worried by traffic it's a difficult thing to get over and it severely restricts where the horse can hack. Then again he may turn out to be fine in traffic! If they have a tractor on the yard you could see how he reacted to that.

I think I'd be highly suspicious. Saying he's cheap just because she wants a good home for him is a bit ironic, the LAST thing I'd do with a much-loved horse is sell him really cheap because I'd worry how he'd be looked after money-wise! £1,000 is awfully cheap when the horse sounds nice enough.

go take a look...but take a copy of the advert and make sure you have discussed all the points on it....if she is being dishonest then this method may help to uncover anything that doesnt add up.

Also take a list of other questions....i know it sounds stupid...but when you have horse and owner in front of you then you might forget to ask.

see if she asks you about where you will keep him....lots of people say home is important and then they dont even ask how the horse will be kept!

Bargains can be had. I bought a very well bred six ye old kwpn with 200 BS winnings, he had been first or second every time out, he has just done his first two be events, placed in both with a sub 30 dressage. He moves beautifully and is very easy in the stable. I paid 2k for him as his previous owner was over horsed. I think he is worth 10k + tbh

Good point with the traffic, we have off road hacking but sometimes you fancy a change or to go further afield, something to think about there.

Iv never spent more than £1000 on a horse and never had a problem with any off them. U don't have to spend £thousands to get a good horse.
My mare cost £750 and iv had her 10 yrs not 1 day lame and humps 1.20m and hunts, team chases etc. And just brought another for £500 who is showing promise. Not everybody thinks their horse is worth thousands and not every cheap horse has something wrong with it.

And if i go with an open mind i can always walk away, not obligated to do anything.
Will be ringing tomorrow, might get an inkling from the conversation let alone anything else....will see!

Agree, looks smart, my current horse was the cheapest at £500! And by far the best. My last was 4k and a complete *****. Good luck!
