If a miniature horse was placed above you in the line up even if it deserved it?

It might seem a strange question but ill explain why. Last time i did our local show a section D stallion was moved down a place and we were moved up a place in the final line up, in the best condition. I got 2nd the section D got 3rd. The man stormed out of the ring in disgust that i had been moved above him. I have done the same local show today and the same man was there. All day i have had disgusting looks of this man ( which i can ignore and sounds petty ) I was in the yearling class which i won ( placed out of 5 ) and this man was stood next to my boyfriend and said to someone he was with " I dont know why she brings that thing its only a miniature its not worth doing anything with, cant understand why it get placed, she shouldnt be allowed at these shows" Now i know you'll all say IGNORE HIM but this isnt the first time i have come across this attitude towards miniatures. I know Miniatures are not everyones cup of tea ( I have no preference for TB or suchlike but would never slag them off ) and its each to their own. I would just like to be taken seriously for once in the show ring at an open show. Was just interested in other peoples opinions on what they think of miniatures and why?

I will not be offended by anyones comments. Like i said each to their own.

This is Inky for those that dont know him.

Showing allows the world to see all the variations and specialities in the broad spectrum of the horse world. It fascinates and amazes outsiders, and those familiar with horses enjoy watching something completely different to theirs.
Get in that ring and show the world your little guy, he's damn original and i think he's beautiful and i'm not a minature person

A horse is a horse !!!!!
That man sounds jealous and i would go to every show to beat him to really pee him off

The horse with the best conformation should win regardless of size. I'm all for 'small but perfectly formed'.

I am puzzled what you can do with a mini tho short of curl up on the sofa with it!

He is wonderful! I would have no objection if a minature that looked like him was placed above me. I went to a show once and a girl was there with a minature that was dreadful and didn't get placed at all and she stormed out of the ring moaning about my friends horse that came 1st.

It seems you can have sour grapes whatever!!

Well done, he is stunning

Nope, I wouldn't be offended at all

as long as it wasn't a riding club horse class or something (

, joking of course). Some people are just jealous and petty

I think he is gorgeous and I can see why the judges adore him!! This man sounds like a nob so yes, you should ignore him!!

It does seem the way with showing sometimes (in my very limited experience) that bigger is better.

Not really the same thing but I once did I working hunter that had ponies and horses (different size jumps I think) there were only two horses, one mine and another, both of which were not that nice (sorry Badger!) and there were some really nice ponies but the judge put the horses first and second.

Wouldn't offend me in the slightest, if it was better then mine thats fair enough.
To storm out of a class for being beaten by a mini really is sad and is very unsportsmanlike.
Well done in your classes though, he is a stunning little thing.

I might be disappointed at being moved down but no way would it be because it was to a miniature or to a shire or anything else. It would just be because I had gone down the line and not up

I might be a bit miffed if it was to some scabby old nag that the judge picked because it was her friends!!!!

He sounds a bit jealous of your stunning and very individual little pony..... as I am, I would love to have owned Inky and have followed your posts from a foal.... he is booooooooootiful.

As Thomastank says 'keep on going and beating him at every opportunity' Oh and give him a big smile everytime you do it
grin.gif
If he ever manages to beat you, another big smile with a 'your turn for once then' comment would make him seeth!!!!!!!!

he is beautiful. I have a miniature too and we have been subject to similar comments. we have also been ignored in the ring by the judge which does gall. Pepper is a coloured and we entered the coloured class one year. we didn't even get asked to do the trot round to the end of the line!! we were simply ignored.

Here she is:

I wouldn't be offended either, especially as from the photo inky looks it fab condition. I would only have an issue if the horse placed above me I felt was worse than mine, but even then I still wouldn't act like the man. It sounds as if he is just jeaolous.

I think he is gorgeous, and is in fabulous condition. If you were in a class against me and the judge moved you up above me in the line up i would honoured to come second to him. He is in beautiful condition and is turned out impeccably. I think when you compete you have to be gracious and accept that sometimes you may not win, unfortunately some people don't seem to grasp this concept!!

BTW, if you ever want to rehome him, my mum absolutely adores him !!

Mini's aren't really my cup of tea, but Inky's gorgeous, and obviously deserved to win!
grin.gif
That man would probably have said the same no-matter what breed was placed ahead of him.

i think he is lovely to,i use to have the same probs when i showed my little girl,i was the only miniature in my classes she was always in the ribbons and the looks i use to get !!! and the comments of thats not a horse ect we even had our pics in the local paper and that really peeeed everyone off,i just laughed it of,it was only jelousy !!!!
smile.gif

WOW thanks very much guys!! ( stinkbomb has to remove doorframe of office to get head out

) I am always of the opinion when at shows that if there is a horses/pony above me in the line up that deserves it then well done to them. We also got 2 thirds which IMO we were placed correctly and if id have been the judge would have placed me third also. I enjoy doing proper miniature classes but they are so far away from us. Doing a local show just gives us both experience but i can be doing without the snide comments. I am of the opinion now that i will show him off as much as i can now and will P*ss as many people off as i can and take great pleasure!!!

PS Jacks mum.... Pepper is soooo cute!!!

Sounds like typical show ring sour grapes to me. Inky is fabulous and in tip top condition, so deserves to do well on his own merit (and yours). I am afraid you will just have to ignore this display of bad manners. Minis are not to everyone's cup of tea, but neither are Arabs, TBs, etc. Personally, I love heavy hairies, but these are slagged off left, right and centre - each to their own. This chap should be marked down on bad manners alone.

Not at all! Size doesnt count in showing lol!

Sour grapes, go out and beat him some more, I think inky is very eyecatching and looks like he would have lots of presence in the ring anyway!

Showing is subjective, thats the long and short of it!

the best horse should win - although I'd question whether the trot movement your mini could show would be that of a good D (sorry but welsh fan and totally dislike minis)

showing should be about turnout+conformation+movement+manners+presentation
and like judging Crufts best of show - in a mixed class it's how good horse x is compared with the breed standard

however minis aren't a breed per se - so I question what class you were in (and of course what class D was in)

if you were mixed M&M I'm sorry but I don't consider minis to be M&M as they are not a recognised native breed and I agree with the D owner

he's is great condition but I do consider minis to be the 'poodles' of the equestrian world (and as anyone who has poodle dogs will know - the real dog underneath the hairstyle is typically ignored).

so I'd be wanting to know what the class was before I would totally agree with you being placed above or below the D.

However I do agree that 'sour grapes' is not acceptable - You enter your horse in a showing class and have to therefore be willing to accept the judge's decision on the day is final and that judge's are human and have likes and dislikes and preferences

however also - to just blindly say from one photograph that just becuase your mini is 'cute' that he should be placed above the D when we have no photo of the D upon which to judge is also unfair

"if you were mixed M&M I'm sorry but I don't consider minis to be M&M as they are not a recognised native breed and I agree with the D owner"

Sorry I disagree with that. Pepper is Miniature Shetland - the last time I looked, the Shetland - regardless of size - was a recognised breed perfectly eligable for M&M classes.

Not sure if Inky is Shetland or Falabella But BOTH are recognised breeds

In answer to your question Inky wasnt in the M+M class. He is a miniature horse and not a native breed and i wouldnt show him as such. He was in the best condition class ( as stated ) which was an open class for all breeds. However Jacks mum is also right in that some minis are native i.e the miniature shetland. The shetland is a recognised breed whether miniature or not. I was not asking whether people thought he should be placed above the Section D from the photo it was posted mearly to show everyone what he was like.

I appreciate your views on minis... Like i said i didnt post to get into a slanging match to defend minis!! I was purely interested in peoples opinions on them and why they think the way they do.

I understand that Minis are not everyones thing. I have no preference for welsh but if one deserves to be placed above me then im happy with that. It was my understanding that Best condition classes were based on the horses overall condition for its age/ breed.. not on how well its trot movement was.

shouldn't matter what the breed is IMO and as for Inky he is so cool
grin.gif
ignore the silly man he's not worth spending time on
