hiya :) i am about to advertise my 11year old, 14hh welsh x trotter pony. she is a totally safe and genuine kids pony (fun pony not a superstar) jumps a small course and has manners to die for!

She wont be expensive and is totally trusted around kids. She does have that funny trot though :)

Just wondered how many people would be put off because of this?

Would have once been put of by a trotter but schooled a tb x trotter on for someone early this year and WOW what a trying little mare with bags of scope and like you say manners to die for. Would defo not be put of by it now!! and the paceing thing did not bother me at all just a matter of adjusting to what was used to.. Possitives definately outweighed this. Good luck and sounds like a lovely find for someone. :)

Depends on how 'funny' the trot is and what I wanted to do

for me atm yes I would be put off as want to do DR etc but if I just wanted a safe sound pony for child to play and learn then no

she is a lovely little mare and i think shes good fun to ride. i did take her to a local show yesterday and got some funny looks :)
someone even came over and told me there was something wrong with her legs! haha. I told her she was a trotter and she asked to see her trot again :)

as a safe kids pony i think she is worth her weight in gold! Someone really will get a bargain x

In which case I would state in advert exactly that. safe kids pony BUT not for everyone as she does pace (trotter) otherwise inexperienced people with think you mean 'jogs' which can be scary lol At least that way you won't get as many time wasters. Also might be worth putting a video so at least people can see, again save you having people that don't understand

I used to have a trotter cross on loan & I loved the paces..such great fun & so comfortable.. he could really jump too tho..i loved him so much RIP old Jimbo..

i own a trotter x tb and i wouldnt be put off buying another, just got to get used to the pacing and if its a safe pony then i dont think it should matter what breed that pony should be worth its weight in gold :) good luck with the sale :)

I rode 2 trotting bred horses - one was an ace all rounder who we unfortuntaley lost last year at the grand old age of 25. The other trotted for a year or so before we got him and has now jumped upto 1m30 level affiliated - mind you it did take an awful long time to develop his canter. He just liked to power along in trot, but for a small horse he had oodles of scope!

I also rode French trotters for an eventing yard in France and some of those were really cracking horses.

I have treated a clients ex trotter though - do make sure to check her back before buying - sacroiliac strain is a common injury in trotters (as is spavin). This particular trotter isnt very old but is unlikely to come sound anytime soon. :(

If she is a good, safe, fun pony then being part trotter wouldn't put me off. They do have a strange looking action though, but providing people realise that you should be fine. If she paces then that can be very comfortable to sit to and cover the ground ;) although I think a pacer might be more difficult to sell.
