Of a 3.5t coachbuilt conversion with a 2000kg payload...??

Do you think it might be a bit too lightweight to be safe...?

Ihave looking for a while and have noticed that payloads can vary from 600kg for the older, solid heavier types to 1400kg for the more newer lightweight rear facing types.....but 2000kg payload...??

Surely something must have been missed to make it this light...?

Please let me have your thoughts...... chocolate orange for those still with me... xx
 
I would wonder about it tbh! I was after a 3.5t for our two mares for a while, but decided that anything I could find just didn't have the payload that we would need for us, mares and general stuff! A 2t payload just sounds really unlikely. Is it def right? If so then the safety of the structure would concern me. Is it a new lorry? Some of the new materials can be lightweight with strength so I guess that would be ok, but if it is an older one then I would be rather suspicious!

Its a 7 year old chassis with a new coach built box.....150,000miles!!:eek:

Or I have another on offer that is also newly built, very sturdy, totally re-enforced materials, 2 supportive layers or reinforced floors (no way the horse will be going through that!!) and all the usual extras i have already had a soundness check done on it and the floor on a 3 year old chassis with 15,000miles but the payload is only about 875kg.

I am only going to travel one due to weight restrictons on a 3.5t would that be enough for one horse, fuel, 2 people and basic tack...??

the second one sounds better. No point having a large payload if the breeze takes half the box away!
Unless you have a large of heavily built horse then I would have thought the 875kg payload would be just about ok. Just watch the extras you leave in it really as once you have got a horse (say 550kg), two people (say 80kg each) you already have only 165kg spare for water/fuel/general stuff. Sounds quite doable though. The other one just sounds dodgy!
 
How heavy is your horse? I would say that the 2000kg payload is very suspicious. The 865kg sounds more realistic but would be restrictive if you had a bigger horse, what with tack, fuel etc.

It really is a minefield - I gave up and bought a 7.5t stalled for 2. But then I have 2 17hh+ horses so had no hope of using a 3.5t for both. Although enough dealers told me I could :rolleyes:. Have you thought about 5.5t lorries? Or do you need 3.5t for licence reasons?

Ooh lovely guys - thanks for your help.....

I need a 3.5t for licence issues...I used to have a trailer and disco combination but never got round to doing my trailer test so used to have to rope in friend with the correct licence to take me in my own transport...silly huh...!!

but didn't want the pressure and wanted the independence so opted for the 3.5T box instead. I only have one anyway, she is a 15h welsh cob type, I have allowed approx 600kgs for her just incase although she is chunky I think this is over cooking it she is prob more 550kg according to the weight tape.... x
 
Yes thats a very good point why do the advertisers blatently lie and say you can put two 17h horses on....you couldn't by weight or size - surely..??!!
 
3.5T Renault Master with 2T payload?
The lwb Renault Master chassis has a weight of 1.6T as an empty chassis whick leaves only 1.9T but that is before the box is fitted.

Personally, I would say impossible?

What is the donor vehicle?

Do you have a link to the advert?

Yes, you can easily fit two 17hh in a professional well constructed coach built 3.5T, however, you would be overweight, putting your horses at risk and invalidating your insurance.
 
Aaaaa I totally understand your frustration, without this forum I wouldn't have even thought about weights and payload etc. And would have bought a 3.5t that was advertised for 2 16.2hh and off we'd go!

I have seen a few of the ifor Williams backs advertised with payloads over 1500kg does anyone have one of these? Are they lighter because no living etc? I can't imagine ifor Williams would be bad build quality???

Its a MWB Renault Master.....I was just very surprised after doing quite a bit of research as never seen one advertised with anything over 1500-1600kg payload....:)

Wouldn't put link on here as i'm sure its genuine - just surprised...:D

Hiya

yes i have seen those but would be worried about the roof height as they dont look very high...?

Also the partitions dont move like a trailer so a horse on the furthest side would have to do some serious manouvering to get off the ramp..?
 
Aah I see! I wonder if you could replace the partition? As per roof height I have taller and smaller ones?? I think?!? I have looked at sooooo many adverts!
