Would you be ticked off...

That may well work in your favour.

How far down near his withers is his mane that short? Could you take some of that off as a saddle path?

What I mean though by naturally dispositioned is that I think slightly larger plaits would suit him better than weedy little ones :(

I'm not really a showing girl, but I'm sure if he looks and acts the part the judge shouldn't be worring what his plaits look like.

I'd just get on with it and enjoy your horse. At least you can secretly blame YO now if he doesn't win! ;)

Not at local level, at that level they are pretty forgiving... But at county level... I'm beginning to wish I'd never entered:(

You are right here. Plaiting is important IMO - even at local level. It needs tailoring to each individual horse to get the best results.

Will look forward to seeing some pics in the next few days. I am sure that everything will work out fine for you QB. You seem very on top of things, and very conscientious.

There are always ways around this sort of thing in the showing world! :)

This is how I do my plaits, rossette plaits up off the neck :)

Sone of those plaits were fake due to rug rubbing. Thse pics were given to me by HGibb photography I have full permission to use, she frequents this orum :)

Omg, believe me, I am pretty neurotic when it comes to plaiting - I nearly melt into a form of lava when I get ready for a show!! And that's just local shows!

Ha ha... You and me would be a right pair... I can't believe I'm doing this! I just feel if I don't... I may regret it forever! I couldn't believe it when I went to my friends earlier tonight and she said she had cords, a bridle, saddle and beagler for me to use, everything I need for in hand and ridden! Couldn't thank her enough... Took away so much stress! I can't wait till next year... Next year we have one show to work to..l the cup I need to win back from my exes family... They donated it... Other than that its jumping and dressage preparing for eventing! I have about four or five people coming with me to keep me chilled and sorted at the shows! Bricking it much?!:o

I once, many years ago, had an Arab mare, complete with long flowing mane. Moved house and temporarily left her on livery with a friend. When I went to collect her I was horrified to see her mane had been pulled to an even three inches all over.

I cried.

On a practical basis you should still be able to do lots of little plaits and I would suggest sewing them in rather than plaiting bands. Think if his mane is that short and whispy bands will slip out. Get a quick unpick to take them out, dont use scissors!! You can't risk losing any thickness.

Wow! Which were fake? I can't tell! Do you want to come and do Ben for me? Petty please?:D

I wish I had three inches to play with:rolleyes::D:p

I always plait... I just hope it grows enough :o:(

I would be angry. this winter i have had people interfering with my horse . bringing her in early cause it was"cold" feeding her other horses feed etc. I was bloody fuming and i now worry constantly what is going on when im not there. why do people belive they can do what they want with others horses :(

I would be very ticked off...

At the previous yard, I went away for a week, leaving the YO looking after my boy. Came back to find she'd done a makeover... Mane plaited over onto 'correct side', trimmed and tidied, and feathers and tail tidied. For starters he's a cob and I was trying to grow it all out of the bogbrush semi-pulled look he came with, second, I didn't ask her to, thirdly, his mane just won't stay on the 'correct' side, so we had a couple of weeks of punk style hair before it decided which side it was going to stay... Grooming is one thing (she didn't bother with that!), but why remove any hair unless explicitly asked?!

New yard is lovely, but hairy cob does stand out from the posh dressage horses - everyone keeps hinting at how lovely he'd look all clipped out. I'm sure he would, but I love his flowing locks, and politely made certain everyone knew he is to stay au naturel - just in case!

If I were you I'd calmly explain to your yard owner that you'd really rather she didn't interfere with your horse uninvited again - imagine if you came one day and she'd got her farrier to shoe him in heart bar shoes because she thought they'd be better than what he normally has! No different in my view.
I certainly wouldn't pay her for the mane - you didn't ask her to do it !

If I had an alternative yard (and I am a touch firey when people do things they know they shouldn't!) I'd probably have a go at trimming her horses mane with some sissors - and see how she reacted ! All her comments (I'm guessing at ) of 'oh it'll grow back' or 'it's just a mane' or 'it looks better like this' would come back to haunt her!!!
