Well as it says in the title - I have been looking at some cheap 'human' hair clippers instead of buying 'horse' trimmers to trim my horses muzzle/ears ect as she hates the big clippers and i begrudge paying £50/70 on trimmers when i could just pay £10 and they may work just as good! I was just wondering if anyone else has done/tried this? My horse has fairly soft hair being a warmblood so i dont think the blased would have any issues - Help!

(below is a link for the trimmers iv been looking at!)

I got some wahl cheap human ones. Mainly cos my listers are too heavy for my daughter to have a go with for more than a minute, so purely so she could have a quick go of reclipping a section of my mare, & so she could play around accustoming her pony to them herself. My 14.2 has long, but tb like coat, & I have to say they have been fine for clipping beard & legs, as long as you go slow. Reckon they'd do my mares face for a reclip, but it would take forever.

Sssh - I use my husband's beard trimmer for my horse when the need arises - I just make sure I clean it and put it back exactly where I found it :) :)

I do have proper horse clippers for a large clip but for the whiskers and silly bits the beard trimmer is better.

Errm, clannad, it was boyfriends hair clippers that inspired me to get some! His are pretty good ones & I intended to borrow them but alas, he knows me too well & I've already had mumbled warnings about not using them!

I did manage the feathers on mine but she has fine whispy tb ones, & I only trimmed to the length of the coat. They'd die doing proper native ones let alone clipping full feathers close.

I have seen a horse in the past that suffered burns all round it's eyes and left it very headshy and terrified of clippers because someone used dog trimmers on it. Please don't, look on eBay etc for cheaper clippers instead

So true - however I bought my husband a very expensive beard trimmer for his birthday he also had a very expensive hair trimmer as well (perfect for feathers on a DWB)

Not that I had a cunning plan of course ........... ;) ;)

I would just get proper horse trimmers, much betetr in the long run and they really arent that expensive! I have full clipped mine 5 times and done a few trace and blanket clips with the purple wahl £45 trimmers! Takes slightly longer than proper clippers, but they're still running fab and they are cordless so I can get under her tummy without fear of her getting the wire caught whilst trying to kick my head in  This is the same horse who wont let 'proper' clippers anywhere near her unless they are the really expensive silent ones hehe!

My friend used some to re hog her cob and they worked fine :) I'd still be careful though.
I have some tiny trimmers, like the pocket type ones, ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WAHL-POCK...t=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item19cd0659d4 ) like those. Have 2 of those but haven't tried them yet, would only be using them for whiskers, ears etc, has anyone tried them and do they work???

I have these as came free with the clippers I bought - seem to work okay but are suprisingly noisy!!

I have also used the wilkinson sword razor/trimmer and personally prefer this as quieter and easier to handle round the muzzle and eyes.
