Would you buy a 16 year old?

Absolutely, if you are looking for what you are looking for, I would say the right horse at that age would be perfect for you, a confidence giver that you could both enjoy

Up until August, when we got Red, i'd have said no.
We got Red as a 17yo in August, and i'm so pleased we did- he's been fantastic, OH has learnt to ride on him, and wants to do some showing this season, and i have hunted him and had quite a few dressage and jumping lessons on him.
He has helped me improve my riding to a point where i am able to get on Solo (who's difficult) and actually make/sort him out.

Just been to see her, she looked very old and her back was quite dipped, she had a loevly character, but just wasnt right. Thanks for all your comments, really helped

As long as you do detective work, found out it was 100% genuine. thoroughly vetted and the right price, i'd do it.
I have an 18 year old, who is a grade A, i have tons of fun with her, jumping, hunting and hacking. A true all rounder she's taken me around hickstead, She's seen it all, done it all and i can just have fun on her. I also have a youngster and before i sit on her i check my life insurance is up to date

....so i know which i prefer!! You could buy any horse and it's a risk. Do your background checks and if it ticks the right boxes, do it.

Well good for you for going to look, & better luck next time!!

As you've read on here there are more positive experiences than negative ones related to buying an older horse.
Keep us all up to date with your search.

I think with a 5 stage vetting and as long as you could keep the horse when it needs retiring then yes why not?

One thing I would say - my friend has a 19/20 year old connie cross and he's a nut nut! Totally lovable but a cheeky little sod so age really is nothing but a number.... x

Hmmmm are you referring to my Mr Winks by any chance - yes....he's 20 and a nut nut!!!

Like Park Ranger said, if it's the horse for you and you're planning on keeping it for the rest of it's years then go for it!
