It depends where they are and also to bare in mind that the Vet has to point it out on his certificate and then the insurance companies tend to exclude them and in some cases refuse to offer a policy cover. Incidentally, is it a Grey!!
I did a few weeks ago. He has quite a few under one of his forearms and around his groin.
It has the potential to cost me alot of money if they go bad but he's a fantastic horse and that far outweighed his problems
It would depend on where the sarcoids were. Sarcoids can reappear after treatment and can start up in new places. My horse had two (she's chestnut) one on her neck and one in her chin groove where her curb chain sits.
Both were treated by freezing three years and haven't come back although vet warned me that they might. I know I was lucky but as I said, depends on where they are!
No absolutely, categorically not. There is enough to go wrong without starting with something like sarcoids. Just my opinion, but I have seen two horses start with one sarcoid and turn into tens of them even with treatment.
One horse had to be retired from riding and the other had to be pts. These may be extreme cases but enough to put me off.
I did but it was a horse I already knew and for me it was worth a risk. She had 3 on her chest that were treated successfully with Dr Ks Liverpools cream but another has popped up on her bum. I do spend a lot of time stressing about every single fly bite lump and bump!
no i wouldnt as even if they are not near the tack they can get attacked by flies also if its grey with sarcoids there is a chance it can get melanomas i have a grey mare that has them
It is a grey and it has possibly 2 on its chest so not near any tack really.
Don't know whether to chance it or not. I think the vet will have put it in his report so not good for insurance purposes at all!

that's where my boy had one, it was fine for a couple of years and then they multiplied - not in that area but in the saddle, girth and near his bits, also his face. If you have the time to allow time off for treatment then that's fine but personally I would never buy one.
Depends on its age really... we recently had a 6 year old vetted with a possible sarcoid and the vet said not to buy it as it was only 6 there was a big chance of them spreading. He said if it was 12 and half the selling price then to buy it!
