A very small umbilical hernia which is considered to be (by a vet) nothing to worry about at all. not to be taken seriously.
the wall defect being 0.5cm in length and no fat or intestine inside as hole is too small. Would this put you off? would you want to be told of this before viewing the horse? Boring question but am intrigued to what your thoughts are

I was on work experience recently and we vetted a horse with a small umbilicul hernia. The vet said that the chances of it causing a problem are very very small. Aesthetically, unless you are showing the horse, you would never really even notice it. In fact, the seller had not even noticed it!

So yes, I would buy a horse with one.

I purchased a foal with such a problem, but to be honest it wasn't, never had any problems with it and she is now 9 yrs old, dissapered as she got older. If it gets any bigger its a simple process to put right.

I know of horses who have had this ( even larger ones) and never had one problem. There can be problems though so it would be a consideration and possibly put me off depending in what I intended to do with the horse and how it was priced. I would expect it to be disclosed to me by the seller prior to purchase no matter what though. That is just the right thing to do.

Yep. Used to know a brood mare who had one, never gave her the slightest trouble and she lived into her teens.

When i bought my mare she had one at 7 months old- it didnt put me off at all - she did go showing as a youngster once while she had it and she was marked down heaviily for it but once it was removed you would have never known it existed.
