Would you buy a horse with a partially locking stifle?

Just looking at a 15.2hh, 13 year old gelding who has evented to pre-novice. Ideally wanting to compete up to 3'3 and use the horse as an allrounder. The horses would have 24/7 turnout or stabling.
Any advice please? Would you buy a horse with a partially locking stifle ? thanks
 
No I wouldn't personally, our TB mare has a locking stifle, one was operated on so doesn't lock but one still does as soon as the weather changes, it has also caused substancial arhtritic changes to her back legs.

She is now 19 and has been retired for 4 years now
 
No, sorry. Especially not a 13 year old, I'd pass that one by personally:(

My only experience of a locking stifle was with a filly I had. In her case, it was simply due to not being able to find a yard at the time where she could have grass turnout in winter. Once I moved her to 24 hour TO, she built up muscle and was fine. The problem resolved. Has this horse had much turnout ? I'd be inclined to get a vets opinion on this with a mature horse.
 
no, I agree that arthritis may well be an issue sooner rather than later. A vet may only be able to speculate at the future, but do ask yours.

There are so many horses for sale atm, I would keep looking. sm x
 
Probably would not knowingly buy one but have one now (11yo cob) who is an absolute jumping machine, only locks when very unfit and stood in stable for long periods but otherwise is ok and well worth having!
 
WE had a cob with a locking stifle. With plenty of turnout and consistent exercise, he waws fine. Very occassionally he locked up, but if we moved him back it unlocked. He was never lame. We sold him on when my daughter outgrew him and now aged 19 is still going strong.
