Would you buy a horse with sarcoids?

She looks lovely but I would have thought £550 was very cheap, even for sarcoids. One of my horses had sarcoids and I treated them with Bloodroot Ointment and they went. So yes, I would buy one with sarcoids but it would depend on what type they were on where. I guess I would take a vets opinion is what I am trying to say!

Lovely horse though.

Personally I wouldn't as there's plenty of horses without sarcoids, but if you're stuck on a budget then maybe, it really depends where they are and how they respond to treatment etc, I just wouldn't.

I have done, but it was just one flat sarcoid. I wouldn't buy one (I don't think) that had the angleberry type ones.

I would think that a young, reasonably bred Hanno that is selling for £550 must have really bad sarcoids. I mean, that is very, very cheap for a horse that is otherwise described as what most of us want.

I thought the flat ones were worse than the dangly ones as the dangly ones could be removed by band/surgery? You learn something new everyday! :)

No I wouldn't.
And as others have said, that's incredibly cheap and I would be concerned as to why.

looking at the website there are a few others around that price that seem to have been posted around the same time - surely its a website mistake. I'm keen to know now!

Yes I would, depending on where they are. benson had sarcoids all over his belly and on his neck, luckily didnt cause us many problems, it was just part of him.

Surely £550 is a typing error - seems way too cheap even with sarcoids.

This is what i first thought? Sounds like a fab horse and im sure sarcoids wouldnt dent the value THAT much would they?
I had a horse on loan who had horrible sarcoids in his armpit area! I had the vet remove them, Which i know often dosent work but years later i still know the horse and he's sarcoid free to date.
For me the answer to your question would have to depend on the sarcoid. I once bought one with a flat one in his girth area and never in 18 years did it effect him in any way even tacked up.

I would want to see them and I'd be more concerned about the way it was thrown in at the end without more detail. ie, sarcoids treated with X, left alone due to vet recommendation, area it was in etc etc. Not tonnes, but a little more than an after thought.

But in answer to your question, yes but I'd want to know history - I wouldn't touch one with treated sarcoids either.

Pan

Probably not, because no one is 100% sure they aren't sometimes transferred to other horses. Ive known at least 2 cases where a horse with sarcoids has been put in a field with other horses andin both cases at least one of the field horses developed a sarcoid within 6 months

No I wouldn't personally. My horse developed 4 sarcoids just after I brought him into work after moving house, no riding all summer plus expensive to treat.

This is what I was thinking.

Makes me wonder how bad they are or what else they haven't disclosed in the ad.

Horse is based in south west.

No. Sarcoids might stay the same, recede or become unmanageable and painful for the horse causing heartbreak and expense for the owner. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Would depend really on age & the no & if they had been treated. I had a brilliant horse who had a small one on his sheath, I worked on the yard previous owner had him on & cared for him daily for 2years, he'd had it since he was a youngster, was 10 & never had treatment, didn't change in the 3yrs I had him & current owners had him nearly 8 yrs without it changing. But a 4yr old with one I doubt I would.

Yes, I just have. I paid well over £10k for him and I still think he was a bargain for what he is.

I did take vet's advice first on whether she thought they were likely to be a problem. Of course, they are excluded from insurance so you need to factor in possible future costs of treatment.

I would not buy a horse with sarcoids. Treatment is expensive with no guarantees. I surmise by this advert that the horse may have multiple sarcoids, which may possibly have been treated but that the treatment may have been unsuccessful. If that is the case and if I were the owner, I would not be offering the horse for sale, but keeping him until such time the sarcoids were affecting his quality of life and then pts.

Hmm, is it 8 or 10? Surrey or Gloucestershire?

Was also advertised in January on H&H for that price.

Or was it sold then and is back up for sale now? Same ad wording though. Most strange!

MD and others - this is the same horse, advertised a few months ago for £2900, only somehow it has gone from 10 years old to 8 in that time, and moved from Surrey to Gloucestershire. Scam?

YES! We have 2 with sarcoids and it has never caused any problems. Use camrosa ointment if they are very bad and it has been amazing with ours :)
