Would you buy homemade treats if they were on the counter in your local tack shop? All nicely packaged in a clear cellophane bag, homemade, no preservatives etc?

I baked some biscuits for my horses today (apple, carrot, bit of garlic, celery and few oats) and got me thinking whether there would be a small market for homemade fresh treats.

I was thinking about 20 'nuggets' in a bag, sort of the size of a big marble. Could do a sweet version (apple, carrot, few oats with peppermint); garlic version like the one above, or plain which has no garlic.

Would you buy these if you saw them in your local tack shop? Would £2 for 20 be reasonable do you think?

Get yourself a website and open up your market, you never know

It is a good idea but you might have to think about the price. I buy a bag (about 1 kilo) for about £1.50 from my local tack shop.

I know for a fact my horse would go crazy for them.

If they were home made, no nasties in & I trusted the seller IE; wouldn't buy them from a car boot etc but would from a tack shop or similar. I know that sounds snobby but if they're from a 'proper' place you can trust there's nothing in them other than the ingredients specified. I don't mean additives either but more like bits of wire/small nails etc. I'm possibly being too paranoid though!!

I would probably buy them as an occasional treat yes

Yes I would, I would feel more comfortable if the ingredients were listed as horse has a problem with high quantities of sugar and oats.

Making and selling products locally could lead to worldwide exports!

Mmm, sounds like there might be a market! I'm going to try a chaff based version today, rather than oats to see if they are just as nice. Then they would be oat free and sugar free.

Moodiestmare - I've got two greedy testers of my own, but if you pm me your address I'll gladly send you some to try when i perfect the recipie. I've ordered some cellophane food bags so I just need to work out how to post them. Jiffy bags i suppose?
