Because mine has not yet been washed/cleaned in however many years I've had it (must be around 5 or 6 atleast!).

Said jacket is a Caldene tweed hacking jacket and only retails at about £80 - sister had hers dry cleaned last year and it cost £20 and didn't shift half the green slime stains so mum suggested throwing mine in the wash on a gental wool wash..... The thinking was that by the time I've had it dry cleaned 4 times I could afford to replace it completely!

Would you? Do you? What about hand wash (surely no different to it getting soaked in the rain?)

It depends what its made of. If it didn't have a high wool content personally I would chuck it in on a really gentle wash - but don't sue me if it comes out small enough to fit a pygmy !!

Ok, its:
60% Wool
30% Acrylic
10% Mixed fibres

And the lining is polyester.

What about hand washing it - it really is filthy (I could probably pass it off as Green tweed rather than grey!)

If you are going to wash it I would use something like Persil Silk and Wool and wash it by hand - DONT be tempted to ring it out to rinse or after washing - pat gently. After washing put it on a coat hanger, do the buttons up, make sure the collar, pockets etc are all right and that it is sitting on the coat hanger correctly or better still lay it on a clean towel in the garden until most of the water has drained away, then do the above.

Ok, brilliant! Will buy some wool wash stuff, wash by hand in some nice cool water and leave it to drip dry, correctly positioned on hanger.

Thankies!!
