Ive seen a horse which looks nice from photos but its 3 hours away which means a 6 hour round trip. Would you drive that far?

All the other horses Ive seen were 2 hours away. Also Ive not seen anything I like for sale other than this horse but I cant make my mind up and Im not too keen to drive that far especially regarding transporting horse back home and secnd viewing.

Can you get the owner to send you a DVD? Might give you a better idea of the horse before you drive so far.

Personally I have driven that far to see horses, but I've always found it difficult to find the kind of competition horse I like so I am willing to go a bit further.

Depends on how drawn you are to the horse. Yes, its a long trip, but look at it the other way.
A 6 hour round trip for a lifetime of fun with the perfect horse.

I would have done, I saw an advert (including video) of a horse in Ireland, booked flights, rode him, loved him, bought him-:)

I've travelled about 3 hours by car to see others.

Go for it!

I would travel that far but I would need to be pretty sure it was worth the trip, especilly with crippling cost of fuel. So many horses are nothing like the owners describe them, I would want to see a good variety of photos and preferably a video. Its so frustrating when you go to see something full of hopes and its nothing like you are expecting. Perhaps this is because peoples tastes and standards differ so much. Good luck

Yes, have driven for 3 /1/2 hours for a couple of my horses (and even my dog). They were definitely worth the journey. Nowadays, I tend to avoid long trips unless I'm really keen.
If this horse is special, then go, but get as much info and a video before setting out. Good luck.

Absolutely - I travelled 3 1/2 hours each way to view my new cob and then repeated the journey a week later when I went to pick him up!
I spoke to the seller for over an hour before I went to view, and must have asked a hundred questions just to make sure the journey was worth it, and was also fortunate the seller was honest and horse as described.
Good luck!

Travelled further in the past and would do so again if I really liked the look & sound of the beast in question.
Make a day of it :)

If you think the horse is worth it, go for it.

I hired a car, drove 5 hours saw the horse - thought OMG it's too small....
I drove all that way so decided to watching it loose school and that was it. I left a deposit and had a 5 * vetting done the next day and I've not looked back since.

Have you emailed/spoken to the owner and asked all the stupid questions you need to ask!? If the picture looks right, the horse sounds right and the seller genuine then all you have to lose is petrol and time - if you don't go, you will never know :)

Good luck!!!!

We drive 3 hours to go and have lunch with friends! :)

Regarding viewing a horse, yes I would, we have, but I'd have cash in my pocket and the trailer on the truck!

Yes - if I can't find anything locally. My other half found his brilliant point to pointer way up in Scotland - We're in the Midlands - and he's never regretted a second with him. Do you have any friends near where the horse is who can go and have a quick look for you if the sellers dont mind??

I drove 4hours up to Cheshire to see a horse. She never sent the video! It walked out of it's stable and i hated it. so drove 4 hours home!

But then i drove 5 hours to Wales & fell in love! Well worth the trip :D

yes i have, i travelled 4hours each way (8 in total) to go and see a horse that i couldn't even ride but i knew that i would have him unless he wasn't like what i'd already seen in pics etc etc.

we went back up to collect him a couple of weeks later, it took us 13 hour round trip to go and collect him in a lorry, traffic, weight, precious 'cargo' and sorting paperwork made it longer but 5yrs later i'm still very happy with my purchase and glad i made the trip!

I drove 3 hours to see a 15 hh four year old by a stallion I liked out of a mare related to one I used to own.

Got there & the poor thing was only just over 14hh so a totally wasted trip.

I have a new mare I bought at the end of September and she was over a 3 hour drive away. I live on the Scottish Border near Gretna and she was in West Yorkshire. Well worth it she was the only one I tried and saw and she was a wonder horse! Don't regret the trip at all :D
Only saw a few pics on Horsemart and had 2 conversations with her owner.

Yes, my Harvey was about 3 hours away and I'm so glad I made the journey. I went to see him twice, going one Saturday then returning the next, so more or less 12 hours in total :)
