andwe put her down and she went straight to the guniea-pigs and rabbits lol x (we paid and extra £50 for her to be brought down)

Not personally, but my friends who are very successful, well-established breeders did so with their two young ones recently, however they knew the breeding lines and the reputation of the breeder they were buying from.
Lots of people I know have imported from Europe unseen, but again, I would be uneasy about it unless I had actually met the animal myself.

Wouldn't advise it unless you know your stuff, especially in the current climate when there are so many scams about (see Carthorse's post)

Yes, absolutely. On the strength of his expression and "look" in photos.

That said, he came highly recommended as suitable for our situation by someone very experienced, and I had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted. Technically we went to view him with the condition we would take him if we liked him, and I guess we might have turned him down if there had been something wildly inappropriate, but I don't think anyone really thought we weren't taking him home.

Couldn't be happier. He was absolutely as billed, has grown into a fantastic dog, and has fulfilled the promise of his puppy pics.

I don't like to say never, if I really knew the person selling and one of the parents, then maybe, but otherwise I think I'd be to worried the puppy was stolen, and I really want to meet at least one of the parents and see for myself where it was brought up et cetera.
I am really no fan of "cute"-puppy pictures on the net and I can't see any reason for myself having sold one of Jonna's puppies with "delivery".

Glad it worked out well for you and your family though, from Sweden.

No! It sounds like a puppy farm job to me as most reliable breeders wouldn't deliver a pup to new owners without meeting them.... would they? You were very lucky.

I did too!
However we went down to pick him up (a long way - 500 miles ish) hence why we only saw photos. We also got a lovely welcome from his parents

Well the main thing is you obviously got a lovely dog out of it, but sounds puppy farm to me. If they couldn't even be bothered to brush the sawdust off

I always brush pups and make sure they smell sweet before people come to see them, never mind collect them. The fact you say it was a family run business doesn't mean it was not a puppy farm. I am sure most good, small breeders wouldn't even class themselves as a business. I would never buy a pup unseen, maybe see photos etc before I made the decision to visit but that is all. And I would never sell a puppy to someone who hadn't come to see the puppy, hopefully more than once, in its home surroundings.

That's what a puppy farm is. We may be wrong but that's what it sounds like. Unfortunately the farms rely on people being swayed by a cute pup and hope they won't do their research. Not ALL farms are 100% bad but most do nothing for the breed, the dogs welfare or the dog over population problem.

Sorry, no one asked for an opinion on puppy farms
