Would you get into debt to keep horses?

I just wondered who would get into debt to either keep an existing horse, or get one if they were desperate to own one? I don't mean debt as a result of a huge vets bill or whatever, I mean for day to day care. I would not, personally, however this doesn't mean that it is easy for me to afford mine, I would rather work many jobs and have less time to make sure that I can afford them, rather than get into debt.

My parents have always drummed into us that if you can't afford it you don't have it and I'm quite good at sticking to that :) two jobs and good financial planning keeps me in the green at the end of each month and if I need something for the horse I put in some extra shifts. However if circumstances changed and (touchwood!!!!) I got made redundant or something bad, I have no idea what I'd do to pay for Bailey so I hope I never have to figure that out!! Xxx

What do you mean "would"? I'm already there!!! Lol. Well, to be fair, it's not because of the horses andI wouldn't go out and by one if I was in debt or if that would make me even worse off. When you say debt do you mean overdrafts/credit cards/loans or what? I essentially live in my overdraft of I'm honest although would love one day to be in the black but I am not overly concerned as it is manageable and i don't go shopping on credit cards or anything like that, I don't have any student debts hanging over me. I have borrowed money off my parents to pay off loans so I now pay them instead and I have a mortgage.

Still, I see it as manageable debt and not spiralling out of control. I am not daft with my earnings as I am not quick to spend it and I don't spend it on pointless stuff.

I think there are different types of 'debt'- not paying your bills, to fund a horse, silly, but maybe a credit card, paid back monthly, not too bad- they scare me though!

No, absolutely not. I have never possessed a credit card for that very reason.

Family first everything else after them I am afraid.

I'm in debt but not because of the day to day care of horses, its been a variety of things going wrong and some spending sprees including poor judgments from me over last 5 years. Ive stopped running up more debt, slowly paying it off and can still run 1 horse til she finds new home.
