If your horse was still very slightly lame 2 weeks after a suspected nail bind on the off hind, and had a digital pulse on that foot and the opposite front foot... as well as recently developing a windgall on that leg? When I say slightly, I do mean minutely-I-may-be-being-paranoid lame, mainly when stepping through with the hind on a circle.... ??

Farrier is my first call with foot and then he'll advise me when we need to work with vets. Sounds like it's defo in foot

Cool, :) I think it may just be a bruise as she seemed fine, then went hacking for a couple of days and the ground has hardened up again, and she is teeny weeny bit short on it again... just paranoid because of the windgalls etc as well ;) Although they go down with work...

I would suspect that it was related to the nail bind.Perhaps a little abscess formed and is still working its way out??? I would get my farrier firstly and then if that found nothing then I would call the vet.

I would get the farrier for the simple reason it could be abcess. It could be a flat abcess thats bubbling. The big changes in the weather don't help, raining, cold then really warm. It will bubble in the heat, then won't be so bad when it gets cooler, so she will look ok.

It won't have helped her getting nail bind when she was shod, but you can't really do anything about that now, just wait.

I used to ride Mick out when he got abcesses, and keep him turned out as walking helps them burst or disappear quicker.

Mick doesn't get abcesses anymore as I know how to manage him now after 6 years.. lol . I don't have him out in the rain for long, summer or winter, and our yard is really high up so our fields are very dry.

The first year I had him he had an abcess for 14 weeks as I hadn't experienced one before and I didn't have a clue how to really get rid of them.

Oh, top tip. If you do find its an abcess, the best thing I found was a white bread poultice. The yeast in the bread draws out the impurities.

Hope she is better soon. x

Thanks Mickeymoo. There is no heat etc anywhere, but I guess I can get farrier out to check with testers :) I will continue to hack her out etc, as she was sound enough to trot like a blooming hackney across the car park yesterday when people were coming on the yard to vote!!! Yep know the beauty of bread poltices ;) Was a regular thing at a yard I worked at years ago :) Fab stuff!! :) She is staying out too, as otherwise she will just get wound up in her stable, though kicking the walls may help it burst?! ;) :p
