i was talking to a lady today and she said she saw a girl ride to tesco tie the horse up outside went inside came out with a can of red bull and fed it to her horse  imho i would NEVER give this sort of thing to a horse whats your thoughts? x

If my horse liked it I probably would.

Millie always liked a can of orange tango at the end of the day if we had been eventing and Pilfer liked a strawberry split ice cream :)

I know Red Bull has a bit of caffeine but doubt one can would have much effect on a horse.

Not sure if there is anything in it that could cause a positive blood test under affiliated rules though which would make me wary if I was competing.

Current horse - good God NO, I'd be flying to the moon!
Previous horse on a lazy day - why not, will give anything a go onece :D

We had a welsh d, she would drink cherryade in the bucket load if u let her, though this was found out by leaving a can within reaching distance and many years ago

I think we are all missing the point... She tied the horse up out side Tesco?!?!!?

In all serious No - I wouldnt, he shares most of my stuff, corner of a pasty, piece of chocolate, a tiny bit of pot noodle - but Red Bull is just awful stuff. Gives me a come down and the shakes and Im a 10-a-day coffee drinker so God knows what the horse would be like - think he would report me!!!

Wouldn't give it to my cob, she turns her nose up at all human food/drink. :D
Probably not, it tastes like ****, dunno how anyone drinks that muck, it tastes like dilute cough medicine.

my lad thought I was trying to poison him when I offered a tiny edge of my iced bun (I'm far too mean to part with anymore :p) just aswell anyway because he spat it out and was rubbing his tongue in his haynet and along the top of his wall bless him haha

No.
It melts metal, why would you drink it yourself let alone give to your horse. The caffeine and acid and sugar, ugh.

We do share the odd lucozade sport when eventing though ::)

She tied it outside Tesco? I would have liked to have seen that!

I dont drink redbull but my horse does pretty much insist on sharing anything i'm holding and has been known to drink coffee, eat ice creams, share a sandwich etc. We used to give them popping candy when I was little, very funny standing in a barn with 10 horses all with their tongues out.

Now why didn't I think of that! Anyone knows whether it works or not as the bunch I ride are somewhat sluggish at the moment.

Cob is partial to orange Tango but thought pepsi max was yuuuuukkkk.

But seriously, no. The stuff is a chemical cocktail and can't be good for man or beast.

I can have a can a red bull then go straight to sleep, think i am just mega tired at the mo!

Yep, that sounds like me, minus the mega tired, i have always been able to drink red bull, take two caffeine pills and go to bed, they just dont have the desired effect on me i guess :)
I'd let horse try it if it wanted, but i wouldn't let her drink much more than a spoonfull at the time. She does like tea though, especially raspberry tea. She hates salt and vinegar crisps which is good cuz i hate them too! She likes bread, other flavour crisps, coke and sprite. Not a fan of maltessers, which is fine cuz more for me :D but she does like haribo tangtastics :D She also likes maccies fries without ketchup, she does not like ketchup :) oh dear, i sound like a horrible person who feeds their horse a lot of junk food, its only very small amounts and rarely, i promise! :D

In response to the bloodtesting under affiliated rules then yes it would show up. Too high a caffeine content and it would flag immediately. Same as too many mints (we're talking 3-4 packets within 2 hours of being tested) bars of chocolate et al. If you compete at an affiliated level then it really isnt worth the risk of getting caught out on a random dope test because you fed something that you didnt think would make any difference.

My horse on Redbull. A big definate NO!!! Unless I was planning on him being the first horse in orbit. He goes simply mental after one too many xxx mints and then acts like a child on red cordial. He always ties to steal my thermas of coffee and god forbid what evils would be unleashed on the world if he was ever successful in his attempts
He is however partial to soda water and has been known to steal my bottle when I'm not looking and has to date destroyed numerous bottles in his quest. He likes the bubbles it seems. :p
My old and very docile horse loved Appletiser and would practically flatten me to get his lips near a bottle of it.
P.s. we had a good friend consume a couple of cans of Redbull before a round of golf. Sadly his heart went into orbit and he died of a heart attack on the golf course. Since then I've not touched the stuff myself let alone let my borderline ADHD horse near it.

I don't really understand why anyone would give their horse something which would have an unpredictable effect, colic or behaviour, but then I am a worrier. I have given my horse little bits of hot cross bun, digestive biscuit and similar but nothing else. And I wouldn't tie my dog up outside a shop, let alone my horse! She sounds like a bit of a p**ey to be honest, if she exists in the first place.

I'm gobsmacked. Why the hell would anyone want to give their horse anything but as close to his natural diet as possible? Just cos they like a taste doesn't justify giving them it as a treat, junk food, fizzy pop, anything with sugar or aspartame in, etc. But that's just my opinion. As you were...

thank you all for your replies i hate the stuff yuk!! lol if i gave my tb it he would lose the plot hes mental enough already lol

This is a wind up, isn't it?

no not a wind up. i was in chemist getting strong painkillers and chemist asked what i had done so was explaining horse had bolted and thrown me off n hurt my back. we got talking about horses and she just said oh i was doing a charity collection outside tescos and a girl rode up on her horse tied up outside went n got red bull n fed it to the horse and she was just asking if it was normal for horses to drink this sort of thing.

i did find it a little funny that it just HAD to be a tescos lol
