REALLY sorry if this is beyond numpty as a question. I am used to barefoot horses, not shod ones. The owner's sole condition of my loan is that the horse remains shod all round.
My boy has shed huge lumps of retained sole and has also shed most of his frogs, both pretty much all at once and in the last week. There is a clear 5-6mm space between his new sole and the shoe on every foot, though not always all way round.
Would you pause riding to not stress the laminae/hoof wall from carrying extra weight?
He had a horrendous abcess last year and I just get a bit anxious about his feet.
Farrier is booked to come Wednesday to sort his feet out & reshoe.
