Hi guys, sorry slightly annoying beggy post but I thought a couple of you might be willing to help out :)

http://www.marsmilk.com/fund2014/clubs/university-of-reading-riding-club

This competition could provide us with extra funding for our club, which we desperately need as the university does not provide us with the funding we need even though our A team gets to Nationals every year! Typical grrr for being a minority sport, as more popular clubs such as football and rugby get so much funding from the Union that they don't know what to do with it and spend it all at the end of the year on a huge booze filled party, whilst our club has had to cut a team and ask members to subsidise costs hugely. If we won this competition then we could reinstate the team that we had to cut this year due to lack of funding. This would mean that more riders could get the chance to experience competitions and so improve their riding further.
If you could click the link, press vote and make sure it's going to a validated email dress then we would be hugely grateful!

hi, I would have happily voted but there were some sinister looking buttons on the site 'opt in, terms & conditions' without anything to explain them and I didnt dare in case I am forever bombarded by more spam email! Sorry! :)

I did it, i have had no spam emails i ticked all but opt-in. :)

I think you can still vote without clicking opt-in :) You will get an email from Mars asking you to click a link to verify your email address but I think that if you don't click opt-in then you won't get emails.

Thank you so much!

As I understand it, voting on a site with an Opt-in box that you can choose to click or not click, should mean less risk for unwanted spam.

If you click the opt-in box = you agree to be put on their mailing list.

If you do not click the opt-in box = they will only send you 1 email so you can confirm that you have voted.

We have exactly the same issue with our uni! We're only allowed one (very successful!) riding team despite having good riders who could make at least 2 competitive teams. Yet there are about 4 football and netball teams, all of which are funded and have their kits, training and competition paid for! Universities need to realise which sports the country are actually good at don't they! Makes me so cross!

I have voted for you, I was on the teams at my uni and ended up captaining the club for a season also - it's so frustrating to be up against the rugby/football/hockey teams who manage to field 3 or 4 teams each all with kit provided and money left over for weekly boozy sessions!! Even when one of our team members qualified to represent GB at the world student games we had so much trouble getting her any funding via the "usual" student sports club channels - you would think that universities/bars/whatever would want to support such talent!

Thanks guys! Yes it is so frustrating at times to be part of a "minority" sport. Reading does brilliantly at Nationals every year and members of our team have been on the GB World student games teams, whereas other sports teams in the university get endless funding despite never making it to nationals and hardly seeming to do well at all. Of course it isn't just the winning that counts but it is very frustrating when it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to our union either, despite the fact that our A team is one of the best uni teams in the country and has been for several years.

One of my housemates is on the women's rugby team and they are having a party at ours this weekend, BBQ and Booze fully paid for from their union budget! Not too much grumbling from me really as I will be getting a free dinner in return for letting them use the house but it seems so unfair to have clubs funding nights out for their teams when other clubs can't even fund their own transport to training facilities or have to cut teams.

Did you used to work at Wellington Charlie76? :)
