Would you have horses if you didn't hunt?

I was pondering this the other day.....

I love my horse but his main job is as a hunter - our 'fun' starts with mounted hound excersise late July, then twice weekly hunting until closing meet in March.

After a few weeks holiday, I do hack him out and support fun rides over the summer to keep him ticking over, but I no longer have the motivation to compete.

So if hunting did cease, sadly I think my horse, and whole lifestyle, would be on the market.

How about you?

As much as I love hunting, I also love schooling horses, bringing out the best I possibly can. As such, I also enjoy competing, although I do pick and choose what I do.

100% yes. I have my pony to have fun with. We have a go at a bit of everything, I'm not so intrested in competing. But we like hacking out with friends, schooling and jumping. And this is the first season we've been out hunting - and were both loving hunting!! But even if hunting did cease to exist I would still have her :)

I would have mine but be much more competitive! Hunting gives me an excuse to go and just enjoy them with no pressure twice a week. It's pretty much the only thing that keeps me sane all winter.

Yep, would definitely still have horses - I would probably end up doing something like team chasing full time if there was no such thing as hunting anymore!
