Hi - a friend and I were just talking about if there is a market for people going out and pulling out Ragwort. Would you hire someone to do this and if so how much per hour would you pay?
H

You may well find a small demand for this but I shouldn't think anyone could make a living from it. If it were me paying I would definitely pay per job rather than per hour.....

I wouldn't pay to have it dug, if there is just a tiny bit of root left there would be another plant to take it's place. I would consider paying to have it sprayed though.

I prefer to do it myself. A) because I don't often find it and if I do I dig it out immediately. Which I'd rather do than wait for someone else. B) if I dig it out... I know I've got it all, I'd worry that maybe someone else might not be as thorough. But that's because I'm a control freak :-) !

However, if I had loads of the stuff, I'd probably consider hiring someone to get rid of a job lot.

Sorry that's not much help is it?

Thats really helpful - thank you. What is a NT though? :o I suppose confessing to Ragwort OCD won't convince anyone that my pulling/digging techniques are sufficient!

On the basis that there are some people who will pay people to do EVERYTHING I'd say that there would be a small market for doing that sort of work.

If you combined it with poo picking, and maybe weed spraying you'd probably have a tidy little business going.

Would def top up the hours I'm losing as a teacher! I suppose references would be the way to prove I was reliable and not lazy on the job (for want to a better description!). I might put up some ads in local feed shops and see what comes of it. Not sure how to price it though....

Larger estates/ landowners or even you'r local council may be better to aim at!
If doing large areas you will need a trailer to put ragwort in and somewhere to dispose of it!
It is the worst job on gods earth, no one wants to do it so make sure you get paid well!!!
