As title really...

1hour 20 mins drive according to AA route finder..probably about 50mins once you get to know ur route..

Yard is in what seems a quiet area, 1 min walk from a small village and surrounded by farmland?

Would be at yard from 9-6 some stabled some out. Currently dont know of anyone in area!

Do you mean you would be at the yard from 9am to 6pm? in which case I would say that would be ok.

However, if you have a job and have to go in the morning before work, and again in the evening after work, then I would say no, it's just too far. And think of the fuel it would cost you!

there must surely be somewhere nearer to your home that is suitable.

Out of choice - No I wouldn't want him that far away from me. Apart from the obvious - getting to him in bad weather and getting to him if there is a problem sometimes it is nice to just go up there, tack up and go for a ride - not always possible if you have 2 hours driving to take into consideration and that's not to mention the cost of getting there each day.

No I wouldn't, have had to dash up the yard in an Emergancy and although it only takes 10mins that feels like hours when you need to be there ASAP.

What kind of livery? Full might be ok (although that's still a long trip when you want to ride) but DIY, no way. I shared a horse on DIY that was a 30-45 min drive away, and it was a PITA.

It is for my job and i'd keep my horses there too, have found the most perfect place but it is over an hour, I would be up there from 9 at the latest to 6 at night. Sometimes i'd maybe have to go out in the day etc!

Oh, so really it's more a commute. Well, it's a long one, especially in winter, and you have to think of petrol costs. That said, I wouldn't rule such a commute out.

My yard is around 45mins away if i go early and it can easly be hours if the m25 is a parking lot! They live out 24/7 and i put up with the drive as closer yards either dont offer the turnout or are full livery only.

I work 2mins from my yard so do my horses before or after work and a friend who's horse shares my field checks them in the evening. It only really works as my friend is less than 5mins away and will o in the even of an emergancy

When I was in the UK I had 5 on DIY on a yard an hour from home (only 45mins of a weekend :D), but on the plus side it was on the way to work. I really dont think an hours commute is an awful lot for a job/yard you are happy with, but then I grew up in a city which means if I wouldn't have had horses if I didn't do that! If it was an hour there then a hour to work I think that is too much.

Considering it's a job I don't think it's too bad. What is it doing? If you don't mind me asking - like what type of yard and where is it? (not trying to steal the job just looking at job ideas)

Will there be others to rely on in case of emergency?

Job is basically looking after horses that i compete, ride etc ranges from minis to racehorses so just a private collection really! my hours are 8-5 or 9-6 and i can do my own horses in that time :)

No, that would be too far, if it were my only option than yes, but like with commuting to work everyday, I do not want to be stuck behind the wheel any more than I already am, so many things I would rather be doing...suppose it depends on if you are DIY too, I do my horse myself everyday so travelling all that way with working full time would be a no go. If however it was also near my place of work that would change things, my work and horse are opposite ends of bristol

I used to drive half an hour to 45 minutes to my yard, on the m6 which was even longer with traffic, but we've moved 10 minutes away now. It does start to strain and get annoying after a few weeks.

Both of my yards in London where an hour/40 mins bus away.

Here in Spain, I walk an hour to the yard and then the same back again.

I still cannot work out whether there would be anyone living on site or if you are just renting the yard to keep the horses there. If the owners that you will be working for are there it could work but if no one there overnight it is not an option I would consider safe for a business.
What would happen if your car broke down? The horses would not be seen for 15 hours that is a long time if one gets colic it could be too late to treat.

I had know choice growing up as lived in London, the nearest horse would be an hour+ away let alone a livery yard!
For years I was up and out at 5am to get the horses done and be ready for work at 9am.
I now live out in the sticks and stables are a 3 min drive down the lane :)
