Would you let a professional compete on your horse

As title really,

Just pondering. I am a BHSAI and desperate to get competition season underway. Current horse having a few issues (backed over winter) and won't be ready for some time. Just wondering if anyone (not suggesting people on here, just in general!) would be interested in having a professional school and compete on their horse (dressage)

Wouldn't be able to contribute £££ but wouldn't ask for £££ for schooling horse either. Do you think there are people out there that would want that or would they want to do it themselves?
 
A professional wouldn't want my horse. Hes not a smart athletic wb or tb etc, hes a cob :D
Think there are people out there who maybe dont want to compete high levels/ affiliated that would let someone else
 
If it was the right person and some one I would trust with my horses training then yes if I was unable to compete or ride for some reason.
 
A couple of years ago I would have, I thought my boy would have benefited from a much better rider than me, but with the help of my OH who is a BHSAI but too big for my lad, have managed to get where I want to be.
On the other hand OH is currently competing one of his clients horse while she is pregnant, she will have the ride back but is more than happy for her boy to be getting the experience.
 
Well I did offer mine to PaddyMonty to jump, but for some incomprehensible reason, he declined :confused:

I might entrust mine to a professional if I was unable to ride them, but I bought them to ride myself really and I'm pretty picky about who I'd give free rein in their training!
 
Yes I have known this where a friend bought a horse but she didnt want to sell so she let a professional take the horse on etc and she thoroughly enjoyed watching etc the progress.She did compete herself but this one was too much for her to handle!!The professional rider loved the horse as I think they found it a good challenge and satisfying to make progress etc.
 
Loads of people pay to have someone else compete and school their horse (my friend makes her whole living out of it!) If you're going to do it for free I expect you'll have your arm bitten off! Good luck :)

It wouldn't need to be completely free rein of training, I could school 3-4 days a week and owner the rest.

Totally understand those who feel its their horse, their ride etc. After all that's why we have them. :)

I think it may have been the offer of me attending in a nurse's outfit that put him off :( :cool:

This. I know very well I would never be competitive at a very high level, but if I had the money (think lottery win :rolleyes:) then I would love to be an 'owner' :)

I have at times had a couple of talented teenagers compete my old boy, he was a good competition schoolmaster for a confident young rider. He won a couple of national titles with a 13 year old which was nice for both of them :D
 
Yes I have someone ride and compete one of my horses as his riding and jumping ability is far better than mine. I get a buzz of watching him compete.
 
YES! i have a very nice mare who is a out an out competition horse,i however don't have all the time in the world to ride and compete and i'm changing career soon which means me going away on and off. I would love to have an agreement with a pro who could ride,she has been professionally schooled for the past 3 mths and is now even better than she was,i'm now seeking someone serious who wants to ride and compete her when i can't. Being honest i could only school/hack twice weekly, have one lesson a fortnight and go to one comp every fortnight,she has been out every week since last year so this option would be perfect for me if they didn't mind me taking her to the odd comp etc to keep my feet in so to speak.
 
I've never really wanted to pay someone £125 a week + shoes + entry fees to ride my horse!! I'd send away for schooling for a few weeks but when my horse is going like a star I want him back! & if he is too much for me to ride then I would have to sell him on.
 
I would...but I would have to put the professional on the George Foreman for a good grilling first!!!:-) Where are you based btw???I have three out of my four that I'd be happy to let the right person do a little with...if they survived the grilling!
 
I think some people would bite your arm off! I was offered the chance to ride a beautiful WB recently, lady who owns her wants to keep her but the daughter is off to uni so she needs a rider. I declined as I do not have time (and horse a bit much for me which I admitted!!) but she is actively looking for someone to work with her and compete as they do not wish to sell her.

I wouldn't be charging for the ride. :) I'm in MK Bucks. I don't currently have my own yard (something I am working on) so would just want to be able to school said horse 3-4 times a week at their current yard and compete when appropriate. As said wouldn't be able to contribute £££ to horses keep but wouldn't charge for schooling either ( I do usually charge my clients for schooling)

I would. I'm an AI too. professional showjumpers or eventers don't ride horses for free...

I struggle to get my horses fit enough, as I am away for 3-5 days a week... I used to pay a local AI to ride my horses for fittening when I was eventing, but would gladly let someone with their stage 3 and experience do some competing on the weekends when I'm working! Shame you are hundreds of miles from me!
 
Good God, yes, as long as I liked the way the professional rode my horse. Can't ride mine often enough, and would take your arm off for an offer like that - not that mine is perhaps quite what you'd be looking for :D
 
ToD, we may be able to come to some arrangement! We are show jumpers but have bred a mare who doesn't like jumping, although she's very talented. She has wonderful paces and would be brilliant at dressage but it's not our bag. We don't want to sell her and would love someone to bring out the best in her.

I wouldn't as I don't have the right type of horse - a 13.2 native pony and although in the future, I would like to compete in dressage and long distance riding, it would be for my own fun not to be competitive, if that makes sense?!

However, if I had a different horse with a greater potential than me, I would certainly consider it - especially if I could still have an input (eg lessons with the rider or could still hack or whatever)
