Would you loan out a 27 year old horse!!!!!

If its to stay on her yard where she has some control I dont see the problem if he's sound and healthy.

She should tell people his age though

At 27 my oldie was capable of doing most things, although obviously not at a high level.

Its good to keep them going, my old lad is still going strong at 33.

I agree with rtk, if the horse is fit and healthy theres no reason why not! If its staying on its owners yard they can keep an eye on it. I used to ride a 27 year old that still loved his work, he would quite happily do light schooling, loved to hack out and was very enthusiastic about popping little jumps

My old eventer is 26 years old & has a couple of sharers. He is a fantastic schoolmaster & still enjoys competing (dressage & showjumping) at riding club level - was still doing affiliated dressage til a couple of years ago - only reason he stopped is the person riding him at the time gave up. He would hate being sat in a field & thrives on work. It is also a fab opportunity for people who want to learn as he needs to be ridden properly & is definitely not for novices! He is also much sounder than a lot of horses I know in their teens so don't write off oldies!

True - tho I know from experience most people wouldn't give the ad a second glance if it did. I tend to word it as 'mature' when I have advertised in the past & then advise people when they contact me so I can reassure them that the horse is not actually on his last legs! You'd be surprised how many people think horses are incapable of doing anything once they reach the age of 15, even if they only want to hack about a couple of days a week!

My old mare looked about 10 at 24 years and was still competing upto around 3'6 show jumping, unaffiliated eventing. Unfortunatley she broke her leg in the field, but im sure she would have still been going strong 3 years later

Not all old horses are worn out, but the age should be mentioned in every advert really

Yes I would, but would be picky about who to and what they wanted to do with him. He would also have to stay at the same yard.

Our old boy is 22 and loves his work. We have hired the SJ course next week at Eland and we are taking him over to do a couple of rounds.

He loves being ridden and his days out.

the first pony i had was on loan and he was 28 when i got him... he moved to my yard and we had great fun he was lovely

The first horse I loaned was in her late 20's. She used to love going out for hacks with me at the weekend and it allowed me to learn loads before I bought my own the next year.

When I took on my now 34yo he was 25, and had been advertised for AGES because they were honest about his age. He's taught me soooo much, specifically how to enjoy cross country.....
