Hi

I have someone interested in coming to ride my horse as I am currently unable to..... she is 17 years old and had quite a bit of experience for her age (also I know someone who went to college with her)..... now my only concern is her age, as I believe I would be responsible for her if anything was to happen....

My pony really needs the exercise as he is 20 and needs the exercise and gets stiff as he is not doing as much as he used to.

She is bringing a parent to meet the pony..... would you insist on them providing insurance for both horse and rider and supply a waiver that releases me of any responsibility?

I know I sound quite cold how I have worded this, but I have not asked for any upkeep as I feel its more important that my pony gets exercised by the right person rather then getting money for it.

What would you do?

Thanks

will you be holding insurance on your horse for field accidents etc?
and what sort of responsiblity do you want to be released from?

i use to have just 'rider' insurance and that covered me on all horses i rode..... but not field injuries etc
my horses insurance now covers me for all horses i ride but also their field accidents etc
id have the rider take out at least their own insurance.

responsiblity wise...put this in the written contract...this is a must
put down what each party has responsiblity for and also what not
e.g. owner: jabs, shoes etc....will not be responsible for any accident rider has....

plain and clear then both parties know where they stand

I would just ask her to get riders insurance.
Im 16 and im covered for any damage i do to property and injurys i think. Its only about £4 a month so its not an unreasonable ask imo.

Just make sure she rides horse well and be honest about him. Politely ask her to take out riders insurance as you arent responsible.. Im sure they will understand :)
