Would you move a mare 10 months in foal???

Depends on the mare and depends how far she is moving to. If she is calm and quiet and settles in well in new surroundings, then yes. Many mares are moved to be foaled-down about a month before the due date, so it's fairly common to do this.

Many of the mares we take into foal arrive with around a month to go.
As long they travel well i dont see a problem.
Some of the ones we have will have travelled for a number of hours.

I moved my mare back to the stud at 10 months in foal, fairly standard practise if taking mare somewhere else to foal down. She was used to travelling though and it was not far, about 45 mins away.

We did! The owner of the yard sold up a month before she was due, and we spoke to the new owner but weren't really convinced about him. We thought it better to move a month before she foaled rather than risk being out on our ear with a young foal in tow and there were three stables available at another yard then that might not have been later, so we moved.

It was all fine, mare settled OK even though she couldn't see her bestest buddy from her new box, but they were out together.

Its no problem but if you are going to move, better to go sooner than later!

No

Mully had to be moved fields and it upset her so much she self aborted at that gestation – I think mares are different when they are pregnant and a lot more sensitive to change.

It was the most horrific thing we have ever had to go through so I don’t recommend it at all/

If shes a good traveller and not a stressy type then I dont see why not.

Mine will come home a month before shes due but she's only 3/4 hour to travel and she is totally chilled about travelling. I'l just drive extra careful.

Cant wait

Yes, I would. If you are moving her to a better place with better facilities for her and her foal then I would do it. I wouldn't leave it much longer though!

Good luck, and keep us updated with progress please!

i would want her moved at least 9-6 weeks prior to foaling personally but my mare is a total stress head sometimes and doesnt take moving well at all.
it also gets quite hard to the mare to travel comfortably when shes heavier, i wouldnt use a trailer thats for sure!
at the minimum 4 weeks to build up antibodies to give to the baby.
if the reasons were for safety or something quite serious then i would move but the longer its lfet the more potential issues it can cause.

I see absolutely no reason why not!! TB's are shipped up from Florida to Kentucky in Jan, for Keeneland Jan Sales and OFTEN you see mares with a new born foal go through the ring, absolutely none the worse for wear!

I know of 2 mares that have recently arrived from the continent that are due to foal in 2 weeks time - one has wax!!

As long as the new stable that she is moved into is thoroughly disinfected before she takes up residence, then I see absolutely no reason why not!!
