Gahhh, I have the classic 'do I stay or do I go' dilema. My current yard suits me well, been there a couple of years now, excellent rural location with nice quiet lanes for hacking, fairly cheap, the farmer lets us liveries get on with our own stuff. Downside is crap electric fencing which is always getting broke (!) which sounds petty but in relatity drives me mad, and my best yard buddy has now moved her neddy back to her home for retirement (and no chance of me going with her as there's no room) plus the other couple of friends I have up there are moving to be closer to where they live this week too. The other girls on the yard are lovely but, its not the same as having you own friends up there if you see what I mean? Plus there'll all teenagers and its nice having friends my own age. Certainly my best buddy and I used to help each other out in terms of bringing in etc and we used to hack out together.
At the moment I have a WONDERFUL lady (fellow livery) who started off riding my horse but pretty much looks after her full time now. I have my own very demanding business so it suits both of us perfectly as I go up a couple of times a week to ride and the other lady looks after her the rest of the time. Unfortunatley this agreement is going to come to an end next spring when she will buy her own horse again. Which brings on my dilema......
Next year I am having a baby and to be honest I'm not sure how I'm going to cope doing the horse and having a baby. The business I am hoping to sell as I don't think I have time to dedicate to it. The baby will co-incide with my fellow livery buying her own horse and its at that point I don't know if I'd be better moving yards as I'll have to do my horse alone again. Getting a sharer/loaner is out of the question - some of you may remember the nightmare I had when the last loaner refused to give me my horse back and I had the worst time ever getting her back. Not an option, no way.
The yard in question is round the corner from me, and litterally next door to my parents house (who I'm thinking I could either ask to help out with the horse from time to time or certainly leave the baby with them whilst I go next door to sort the horse out). The other advantage is there is only 2 liveries there, one of which is my best friend
so again it would be nice having some moral support on the yard. The downside to this yard (and its a fairly big downside) is the hacking, or lack of. Although its set in a lovely location, the road that I would have to hack down to get out into the coutry side is one of those rural lanes with a 60mph speed limit!!! I drive down it most days and I wouldn't fancy riding down it - people drive like idiots. The 2 liveries on the yard don't hack out really, they just ride in the field but thats not really my bag although apparantly he has quite a lot of land you can ride on. Having said that I don't know how much riding I will be doing once the baby is here?
Not sure what do folks? Any suggestions?
