Would you park your trailer on a grass verge?

Me and my friend want to go to new surroundings for a hack tomorrow - there are some lovely bridleways about 20min drive away but the only place I can see to park is on a wide grass verge. I have ridden round the area on my mountain-bike but there are no car-parks in the area.
Is parking on a verge allowed and would you do it/have you done it?
The verge is on 'B' road so not a lane but not really busy road either.

A friend and i hack up a hill near us that we have to trailer to. We always park on the verge of this quiet lane, however am not sure if my friend has special permission from someone.

Edited to say that the verge is wide enough to fit two trailers on it and we also lock the hitch so noone can pinch the trailer.

I have had to several times out hunting, but not entirely happy about it. Think I'd be happy to if hacking out. Does it have a lockable hitch?

Yes - the trailer has a lockable hitch although I know they are not totally secure (I know of someone who had their's stolen while the hitch was locked!)
I am also worried about my little steps I take with me as a mounting block - I would have to leave them by the trailer. They might look attractive to a passing motorist!

My friend who i go with has to do this so she tries to position the steps so that they are tucked in by the trailer on the hedge side of the verge. If that's possible on the verge you're thinking of using and if you're horse will stand well for you with the mounting block in and awkward place.

Wouldn't your friend put your steps into your trailer before you set off or do you both need them for mounting? I also take the wheelclamp with us when we take the trailer out as I think we need both security measures fitted anyway for the insurance to be valid.

Thanks Cattie - yes Jerry will stand in awkward places to be mounted (usually) so that was what I was thinking!
The alternative was to attach some good ol' baler twine to the steps then mount holding the twine so they could be lifted up and into the back of the trailer!
Ingenious eh?!
I think I would have to practise that manoevure at home first though!!
Oh who would have a 17.2hh horsey? I must make it my aim to be able to get on him from the ground.

Ah yes - we both need the steps!!
Me because I have a 17.2h horsey and I'm not as fit and supple as I should be and she needs them because she is a more mature lady (60+) of shortish legs and has a 16hh horsey!

Providing you are not obstructing a gateway or driveway & not directly outside someone's house then I doubt if you would have any problem. Most parking problems now are dealt with by either traffic wardens or street wardens & from the description of where you'll be parking up I doubt if there would be any about. The police have better things to do with their time than mess about with a trailer parked on a verge. Just go ahead, park up & enjoy your hack

1 of the other liveries at my yard parked her box on a grass verge last month when out hunting. The verge collapsed, the lorry rolled on its side (trapping both horse and rider) and the lorry is probably a write-off (only converted in the summer). Plus the recovery took 2 tow trucks several hours, at about £500/hour each!

I have parked on verges for many years when hunting and never had any problems apart from once getting broken into and once or twice getting stuck in the mud! It's quite a normal thing to do hunting and no one is going to object so long as you are not on a junction, bend in the road or blocking a gateway. I always put a steering lock and trailer lock on though.
