Would you pay £300 p/m for this?

That sounds very cheap to me if it includes feed, bedding and hay. Sounds like the facilities are fab too! For something similar in my area, you would be looking at paying £400 + per month.

I can't decide! My friend's yard charges about that for what I call part livery, but most call full nowadays. They only have one outdoor school though.. Another local yard with two indoor schools charges £400pcm for full livery.

How can you answer this when we don't know if it's DIY, part or for full livery?

As it makes all the difference!!!!

If it's for full then Yes it's a good price, if it's for DIY then it's incredibly expensive!

You don't say if this is DIY or full/part livery.

If it is part, so horses get mucked out etc I would say good value (assuming owners can have their horses in through the summer too and that 24/7 isn't compulsory).

But if it is DIY/assisted DIY I would say very expensive, especially for the area.

I would envisage an average part-stabled working horse to cost approx £20 per week for hay/bedding/feed in the summer and £30pw in the winter which would mean your basic stable costs are £45-55 per week, even in london commuter belt you can find a decent yard for that.

I think we need to know what part of the country you are in, OP and also whether this is meant to be full, part or DIY livery?

It sounds expensive to me unless it's full livery, but then I'm in Shropshire and on DIY. Pretty much the same facilities as you but only have one outdoor school (excellent size and quality) but we do have 500 acres of off-road hacking around the farm - and then easy access to bridleways for further afield too and the price doesn't include hard feed like yours does. Currently paying £25 a week but going up to £30 in October, which I think is still very fair as there haven't been any price rises since 2006.

Having kept horses in yorkshire- i would say that is expensive for the part of the country. About 3 years a go i used to pay £40p/w for stable, all day turnout/ horse mucked out/ rugs changed/fed etc etc they did everything but didnt ride/ look after tack. It was a nice yard as well, not a run down sort of thing.

In berkshire, i would think that that is fantastic value and would move there in a shot!!! At the minute i pay £118 p/m for stable and a field and ad lib hay. But i have to do everything mysel f(theres no groom servioce). At the yard i was at previously, it was £44 a week DIY. On top of that i was spending about £35 a week on hay, £15 a week on straw and had to buy my own feed. I ended up sepnding just under £400 per month for DIY. which in hind sight was way over my budget!!!

But i have to say- transport to shows in summer would cinch it for me...what anamazing idea!!!

Couldnt agree with this more! Around here (Berkshire) its like £40p/w for DIY with absoutey nothing included. I about to move to Portsmouth where for £80 a week i get stable, unlimited grazing, hay, feed, bedding (straw or shavings) worming, and a choice of farriers and vets et who visit regularly. Monday to friday they do everything such as much out rug change blah blah but weekends its all me. This was a good £40 cheaper than others I looked at and although theres only one school and its outdoor, its the best value for money...long story short, around hEre what your being offered would be AMAZING!

Assuming it's for full livery?

I personally wouldn't. I pay £50 a month in Surrey for a shared rented paddock, with good hacking and use of the floodlit all weather school next door. Good fencing and auto water troughs.

I have a good doer who gets the runs on haylege, and eats straw. I wouldn't use the horse walker etc and I prefer to choose my own vet/farrier etc. Don't like big yards.

Although I'm sure if I had a horse I wanted stabled and wanted those facilities I would look for somewhere like that.

I haven't read all of the posts.

But if YOU think it is worth it then it is... but guessing if you are asking here you aren't sure.

IMHO it comes down to what you are prepared to pay and if you like the yard and atmosphere there.

Would you pay £300 p/m for this:

• Segregated, well drained, rotated pastureland )
• Efficient worming programme
• Home made quality haylage
• All hard feed requirements catered for
• Weekly farrier service
• Excellent equine veterinary practice (shared visits)
• Equine dentist (annual)
• Winter time horses turned out and brought in, rugs changed
• Summer time horses thoroughly checked twice daily
• Owners live on site
• Individual equine and owner customer service

FACILITIES

• 2 indoor schools (20m x 40m and 18m x 44m)
• 1 outdoor school (25m x 40m)
• 200+ acres of off road hacking
• Jumping paddock (summer)
• Transport to local shows (summer)
• Tuition available from YRC trained BHSII instructors
• Trailer or lorry parking free of charge

i am just wondering if its good value compared to what everyone else gets?

We'd bloomin jump at that round here!!! Heck, where is it???

Sounds rather good price really considering a good equestrian centre down our way (southeast) with similar facilities charges £105 per week for part livery and £30 just for DIY.

I consider myself very lucky that I only pay £22 per week for DIY at a little riding school that has a few liveries and for that I get a HUGE stable, 20x40 outdoor school, small indoor school (GODSEND IN WINTER we are allowed to turn out in there if weather really bad) 20x60 grass school, jumping paddock with jumps, xcountry course, good grazing, instructor/owner on site, free horsebox parking, lovely friendly atmosphere and the best thing for me and my mare: shows on site! I love it. After more than my fair share of horrible livery yards this place is a palace. At the end of the day if YOU like the place and your horse is happy there then what price would you put on your happiness???
