saw a nice horse today, pretty much fits the bill, but (lady was very honest) she can be sticky to catch, she is currently turned out with 1 other so she just brings them in together as the horse doesn't like being left out alone. went to watch owner catch her and she caught the companion and the horse followed to the gate and was caught. if i bought her she'd be turned out in big group, some of which are field ornaments so never come in. the seller wasn't sure how bad she would be to catch in this situation-would you buy or not??

suppose my concern is our fields are apprx 4-6 acres and they are out in groups of 5 ish. some that are bad to catch just run riot in such big fields and you can't really take a feed bowl in etc

worst comes to worst you could fence of an area to turn her out in, if it was 100% perfect pony i would buy BUT would want price to reflect her being s*** to catch

If she was perfect for what you want in every other way then probably yes I would buy. The being a cowbag to catch is something that can be worked on. As vieshot says you can always fence off an area so you can catch her

i wouldn't unless i was 100% sure i could fence her off a small part of the field and that she'd be ok in it. perhaps i'd get her on trial first?

i had a mare that was hard to catch and it was sooooo draining. even with hours and hours of work with her, she never really got 'fixed'.

but... if there was a way of turning her out in a smaller field it wouldn't be such a nightmare. xxx

i have decided not to take her, there isn't really the option of fencing off a bit due to the shape and size of fields and secondly horses who are fine to catch can have there moments at our yard as the fields are sooo nice. don't really want to spend hours trying to catch a horse and for my budget i'm sure i'll find something decent- the search continues!!!

No - I have a short temper, last five miniuts, throw the head collar at the horse while cursing every name under the sun!! I get annoyed if mine don't come to me and I have to WALK to get them in

If being hard to catch is the only negative then you would be mad not to buy her! Every horse has something negative about it and taking a few minutes to catch is a minor problem that is easily improved on with a bit of patience. There is no such thing as a perfect horse
