I'll try my best to explain :D :p

Ive got a 14hh 13 yr old mare, ive had her for a year and a half now.
She was very very nervous and had been left untouched for a few years as a broodmare.
We think she was a ride and drive before she was a broodmare.

Shes come on in leaps and bounds, longreins ok and lunges ok (bit nappy) but is a really lazy mare. She really doesnt want to do it tbh :p
Shes a very spirited, strong mare just a bit lazy when it comes to boring "schooling"

She has athritus, and is a bit creaky in the winter and we have no school so would be hacking only which is all i want to do.

I just dont know whether or not to do it. Shes perfectly happy as she is, and im not even sure if she would be right for me to ride as im a nervous novice and shes a welsh mare :rolleyes: and pretty spooky :o

But its nigglin now that i want to ride and no selling is not an option shes has a home with me for life :)

So any sucess stories and truthful answers please!

DEFINITELY give it a go !!! Schooling is boring fo a lot of horses, and the exercise will help her stiff bits. You could be mising a trick if you done - I reckon you'll both really benefit :D
 
If your wanting to ride her and you don't want to use her as broodmare then yes of course you should back her!

If your nervous then I'd suggest you got someone else to do it tho

She wasnt a broodmare with me, i got her as a pet! :p I wasnt interested in riding back them.

Have plenty of people willing to help me out, im just really undecided! It wouldnt be til next spring anyway so got a while to think about it :)
 
Well we're in the process of breaking a 12yr old mare, she was, up untill a month ago, untouched...not even halter broken, so if we're mad enough to do it you may as well join the club lol!! Give it a go, youve nothing to loose & everything to gain, good luck!
 
Go for it, I think most horses enjoy getting out and about if they are sound enough to cope. I started riding a horse that had been out of work. His face the first time we went out was an absolute treat, everytime we went out he looks happy.
