When I log onto HHO I see so many post about badly treated horses - but after 40 years of horst ownership have never seen this many bad things happen. If this is as bad as you say report it - but I have my doubts

Seems like you may have already made an opinion..... I think it depends on the severity of the arthritis. This condition is often managed with exercise as standing still makes the joints stiffer and therefore more painful. She may be walking the horse out to help the arthritis.

i do believe the post, as an acquaintance of mine was very similar. She had a dear good mare who'd given her years of faithful service but was patently on her last legs. She still used to be ridden out "oh she loves it"! The mare could hardly put one foot in front of the other but the acquantance was still trying to get her to adopt dressage stance. The final time she pulled up to speak to me (she was always telling me how to ride better incidentally) the old mare's eyes were half shut and dead, and she looked a wreck. It reminded me of Ginger in Black Beauty. She was at last put down a week or two later.

So yes, there are people like that out there - in the minority thank goodness, but there.

I used to take my pony out who had athritis for long hacks she loved it kept her as supple as she could be. Her legs looked horrendous but she "didn't buckle to the floor". If you really think this horse is a welfare case you should report her.

No I wouldn't if the horse was really suffering, but there are always two sides to every story. Only recently did we have the sad tale about the horse that was being put down with a young girl trying to 'save its life'. Then the owner came on and far more was revealed about the situation and how hard that decision had been to make.

I'm sure some people might post about how a (just) 9 stone lady was galloping a 13.2 around the Ridgeway on Monday hammering it into the ground, but actually I was just giving a pony who is currently between children at the moment and not doing an awful lot, a chance to let off steam.

As others say, if you are really worried then report it, but although the horse may look like an old crock, keeping moving can do a lot to help arthritis.

dont get me wrong, if the horse had arthritis and walking helped keep the horse from stiffening im completely for that, my friend does this with her horse and its really helped making him move along, but this horse literally is on her last legs, most her joints are swollen, you can tell shes in pain by walking round the field, and i dont mean managable pain either, i cant even explain the bulge of swelling in her knees, imagine another knee on top of the knee....

even her family have told her, she wont listen...

So, report her to WHW/BHS etc. Coming on here won't help if there is really a problem. Good luck.
