Would you risk plaiting up the night before?

Ok I'm now on the countdown to my first show outing ever on Sunday! I am very slow plaiting and suspect we will have an early ish time for our test, and I know George will be a bit anxious 1st thing as the other horses will have gone out in the field and he won't. Is it a good idea to do the plaits the night before, put a stretchy neck cover on and then just roll them up in the morning? No idea whether this will annoy George or not and no opportunity to try - advice please!

Hi

First of all, good luck!!

Secondly - I always plait the night before if I have an early start - and roll them up. I leave the forelock til the morning in case he rubs it, and then pick out any woodchips in the mane in the morning!!

Lastly - remember you are doing this for FUN!!!

I always did it with flint because I was always a stress head on the day. I used to leave forelock until the morning as he would rub it. Neck cover if laying flat or tights if you roll up the night before!!

GOOD LUCK!! It all about having a little bit of fun!

i did this for the first time last week
plaited the night before, and then put a rug on with a neck cover- it worked!!!!
all i had to do was roll in the morning which was great- i would give it a go!!! and if it doesnt work then just go unplaited- its not the end of the world.

good luck

Always do unless I have a late time - plait up fully and pick out any bits in the morning - my lad's mane is so thick it takes and hour to do

OH's mare on the other hand took me 12 mins!

Yes I always plait up the night before too unless morning start time isn't too bad. I also turn out in the summer and don't ever cover them up inside or out!

Do sometimes have to pick a bit of mud out and once this summer I was riding up the centre line and noticed a big bit of mud on one plait

, but hey the judge didn't, so no problem!!!

i would say yes, i have done both, plaited in the morning and the night before. I would say do it the night before and cover with tighs - there is nothing worse than doing it early in the morning!

(i made the mistake once of leaving it to the morning, it was a friend and myself going to a show, my friends 1st show for herself and her youngster, so we went for a drink the night before to calm her nerves..... needless to say, we ended up hitting the clubs, didnt get to bed til 4 and was at the yard by 7 to plait up (didnt make it down earlier as planned lol) it was quite funny really - some were golf balls, some tiny and OMG i had so many holes in my fingers from stabbing myself! - not a wise idea!)

We plait his mane and put his sexy lycra hoody on then roll them up in the morning , his tail is raked so dont have to plait that anymore and looks just as nice, George will be a bit grumpy being kept in but Im sure he will forgive you after a carrot or two !! lots of luck for Sunday

My plaiting skills are rubbish and I have to chop Rosie's mane because she won't let me pull it, so she has quite a few spikey bits.

I always plait the night before and roll them up. Smother them in vaseline and then put the lycra hood on. In the morning they look like a professional has done them (almost!!)

Oh I have always plaited up the night before, unless my tests are late on. I mainly do it because I prefer to plait when the mane is wet and, I always bath the night before.

Saying that, I have to plait my Andalusian on the morning as he has a running plait and it never stays in.
