We have a girl at our yard that doesn't work at all, but still insists on working both her horses every day when the rest of us are arriving from work. Last night there were lessons booked from 4.30pm - 6.45pm which is the same every week. She has now taken it upon herself to still be working her horses at the start of people's lessons for at least 10-15 mins!!
There are 2 schools but she never uses one of them and insists on using the one that is booked. I went to lunge my girly the other evening (she was in there lunging and one other person was riding) and made a point of standing there with ponio and lunge line waiting to go in. I also remarked that there isn't enough room for 2 people lunging and 1 riding (not a full size school). This seems to be an ongoing issue that is getting worse. I don't normally get involved in yard politics but she takes the biscuit. I also don't feel that I can approach YO as said person has been there for years and it's almost like she thinks she runs the yard anyway!! She seems to have opinion on everyone and is constantly a source of the b*tching. Nobody ever seems to say anything and I know that people feel the same as me. I like the yard and horsey happy there but I am getting slightly peeved now!! aaaahhhh!!!

Yes you should say something. Do you have a school appointment book? If not get one. When the school is booked its booked unless the person booking it says that they don't mind sharing.
What a cow bag.
She has a right to ride whatever time she wants, regardless of if she works or doesn't - but not when the school is booked.

I would mention to the YO that this person always seems to use the school during busy times and that you are sometimes unable to exercise your horse in the only time you have available due to her.
We have a similar person on our yard. Our YO had a word with her and the situation seems to have improved.

Surely whether she works or not if someone has booked the school for a lesson with an instructor then they should leave? That sounds like a basic yard rule to me, I'd have a quiet word with the YO

I do agree that people have a right to ride whenever, regardless of whether they work or not. But this happens everyday. It just seems that she doesn't think of anyone else.

Talk to the YO -if you do it in a generalised fashioned by saying that 'someone keeps hogging the school at busy times and disregarding bookings for the school for lessons with an instructor' your YO won't feel as if you are specifically getting at the problem person but will hopefully clarify the rules for school use to apply to everyone. This should make it more fair but without anyone feel as if they are being named & shamed.

Jeez, you MUST be at my yard!!! |It is just the same there, there is one user who has been there years, is a bully, and thinks she can do exactly what she likes....

The YO is scared of her so it is no use complaining - it sounds wimpish but in my case I either confront her directly if she really racks me off or ignore her and work round her (the easier option, not one I usually take

My favourite one is when the school is booked for say 6pm, at 5.50pm someone runs in and says
"Im just going to pop in for like 10 mins"
Which is inevitably longer than that. Peeves me because its not like we only have one school, we have two, plus onsite gallops so they could do something else!
And breath!

are you at my old yard??
one of the reasons i left - and the fact that the yard owner was an idiot!!

Exactly!! We have the 2 schools and fields for hacking. But unfortunately only a couple of us go out. The funny thing is that she went over to go and have a rant at the person who had booked the school for her lesson, as they starting earlier than she thought. Still went in there and was STILL in there 15 mins into poor ladies lesson. Think instructor was too gobsmacked at the rudeness to say anything!!!

I would have to say something in light of that. Esp if I was paying for a lesson.
I find yelling across the yard works
"Do you mind being so kind as getting out and letting me carry on with the lesson I have paid for?"

Why wont she use the other school? is there a problem with it? and if not why dont you all use the other school? I would say something and if it concerns a lot of people in the yard and the YO wont do anything then maybe call a yard meeting and confront her (not in a nasty way but gently show her the error of her ways!) If like you say she has been there a long time and always got away with this sort of behaviour she may be thick skinned and not realise she is being rude?

I have my horses on our own stables but, as we don't have a school i will book the one at the livery yard across the road if it's free. They have a white board that is for school bookings and the school is used on tuesdays evenings (i think) for people's lessons. From what i know everyone in the yard is aware of this and there is no problem, If someone's got their name down to use the school then that's that, the school is for them alone (unless obviously they agreed to let someone else in).
I booked the school for 30 mins the other week and arrived to see one of the liveries was tacking up and intending to go in the school. I was schooling round and to be honest didn't have a problem with her coming in as it doesn't bother me and I feel well they're liveried on the yard I'm not (although i have paid to use the school). However, the yard owner was passing and she was talking to the other lady. Said lady didn't come in to school and, as I finished I commented how i thought she was coming in. Apparently YO had told her she couldn't, I'd booked the school and that was that! I did feel a little guilty but i guess that's how a YO should be!

i used to be at a yard where YO and her mother were there all day every day. just as liveries started getting there after work the daughter used to go in to the only school and mother used to shout out her dressage test. they would never let you in till they were finished.

No, they are both rubber schools and we do all use the other one too! Just doesn't help that we all finish work and arrive around the same time.

Maybe there's a reason she can't ride at any other time. Rather than all of you fuming quietly to yourselves why don't you say something? And if you think YO won't support you, maybe you have to consider whether it is the right yard for you.

at my old yard my friend and i were having a jumping lesson when two kids cam in the school and started hooning around and then jumped the jumps we werent jumping!!!!
