Would you guys say bella is too fat? We were told by the vet that she was too fat, but we still think that she needs to put more weight on, and so does our YO & RI. She is an ID x Cob so she's supposed to be chunky. What do you think?

:)

I think she looks about right to me, though I can't see her from behind. Some more muscle might help, but not more fat.

Thats what we were thinking. She's not been in much work since having a foal so we are working her and trying to build up the muscle. RI said she needs weight to be able to put on muscle and 'If she was mine I'd only be happy when she was twice the size. Thanks

Fat wont become muscle so can't see why she'd need to gain weight to gain muscle... it would just make working harder for her! As long as she's getting enough feed for the energy she should be fine? She looks good weight-wise to me anyway (: Can't see any ribs or anything!

fat doesnt not turn into muscle! weight wise I woulkd say she's spot on (alot of people with good doers would be envious lol!) but she could do with more muscle-hill work if you can, ridden or lunging pole work (in walk and trot) and hacking and schooling :) she's very pretty, I'm a sucker for a grey.

Vet said he didn't like that he couldn't see her ribs, when he could last time, i told him that was ridiculous. But then he wasn't the specified equine vet, just came to give injection. We're currently schooling and are changing her diet to feed with less sugar in to help with other issues. YO said there probably paranoid about lami.

she looks good to me, especially at this time of year. to build up her back end lots of up and down transitions while schooling would help and you could also do the same out hacking if she doesnt get too lit up. also hills are great for getting them fitter, trotting up rather than galloping!!!!!... she looks a really nice type...good luck:D:D

I must admit that I would like a smidge less on, though not bad at all if she has been off work and just come through all that spring grass! I would be much more inclined to listen to the vets opinion than anyone else - their top priority if your horses health so def a good person to take notice of! I would rather my horse was fit and with a little less cover, rather than the other way around. I am paranoid though and do hate a chubby horse! I just think that slim is def healthier in the long run too, not just in terms of lami but also joint wear. She's a v pretty girl, just my type!

You can't see my horses ribs but he's certainly not fat.... In fact, you can barely feel his ribs

He certainly looks podgy hmm? Yes, that was a few months back, but he's not carrying any more weight now, I promise ;)
So I wouldn't always worry about seeing the ribs. I think there are more important things than that!

she doesn't look glaringly overweight, but i would be concerned if the vet (as the medical professional) had said my horse was over weight...

also, i think your RI saying she should be TWICE the size is a bit irresponsible! cos she would most definitely be HUGELY overweight then! :)

perhaps ask your regular vet next time he's on the yard? x
