would you say this is self-inflicted?

This is towards the inside of our 22 year old cushings mares right hind leg

Vet thought it was fractured initially (done on Friday), but she's hardly lame on it now. It's very very sore and swollen (cellulitis) though. She's on 10 days of antibiotics, but i think she'll need more because her cushings prevents her from healing properly.

Anyway, just wondering if you think it could be self-inflicted? Like stood on herself with her other hind when standing up? Or maybe something to do with a rug surcingle? Not another horse imo. And i can't see anything in the field that she could have done it on.

She can't be boxrested any more, so she's locked in our manege with a round hay bale. She's a pain in the ass! She's already fractured both back legs in the time we've had her

That is bizarre as my boy had virtually the same thing a few weeks ago on his back leg. I have no idea how it happened - there is nothing in the field to cause it. He was hopping lame at first, then it settled down after a few days with treatment of Hypocare spray and being turned back out to walk the swelling off. All I can guess of how he did it was kicking out at his fieldmate and skining it on the post and rail fence. It looked far worse than it was and is now virtually grown over. I must try and work out how to post pics to show you how nasty it was!

That's a good point actually - i didn't think about that possible scenario. She's been a bit of a cow-bag lately, trying to kick our pony for no reason, so maybe she caught the fence. It's even bigger again today Nothing is ever simple with her!

My little elderly mare did something very like that herself, there was a fly and she scraped the other hoof down the inside of her hind leg sending it away!

It looks like she could have scraped it with the other leg when getting up, or kicking out and running away could be an answer. My horse has had a few small random injuries right up inside her thigh that I can only assume are self inflicted, none of them big so far!
