Would you say 'yes' or 'no' to this?

I have been asked if I would let some Animal Healing students practice on my horses.

Now, it's not my thing, but I was wondering if it would be good for them to be around new people. My gelding in particular might benefit from it. I would, of course need to be there.

Any thoughts?

I would say yes for the same reasons as you. I (you) would be there to supervise and so would be in control of the situation. Also you can stop it if you don't like it?

Yes I don't see why not, make sure you come to some agreement in case a horse / a student gets hurt (not that they would, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious) and supervise at all times!!!

Yes I would such things are fun to watch .
I nearly disgraced myself however when my horses where practised on by a cystal waving lady how I kept my face straight I will never know it was hilarious.

It's laying of hands, Reiki and crystal healing.

My grey will love the fuss. CM might be wary (just depends if they are calm people or not) so I would veto them using her if she's unhappy. The gelding really needs to be exposed to more people, it would be good to have people come along and interact with him who just do 'nice' things (no injections! ;)).

Yep, well socialised horses are much nicer - if you're there to make polite suggestions like 'perhaps don't wave the crystals so close to the back end' etc. then not sure much harm can come to either party.

As long as I trusted my horses to behave themselves and could be there to supervise & advise if need-be, then I'd go for it! Wouldn't trust my mare, but the geldings would love it.

The horses are very different, so the students would have a range of temperaments to experience being around. I don't think I would be taking advantage of them and equally they wouldn't be taking advantage of me.

I'm leaning towards saying yes. We'll see if they can fix the gelding's sore leg too. :p

Yes I would. The local 4H horse club (like Young Farmers) asked to come to my farm for the kids to meet all the horses and youngsters. It was really good for my guys as they had never met a huge group of people all together before. The older horses loved the attention-on-steroids and even the youngsters behaved impeccably and sucked up the pats and cuddles.

I wouldn't, because I can't trust myself not to get into a debate with them. The equine touch lot were not impressed when I informed them that if their technique can be beneficial (i.e. has a physical effect), it could have a negative effect if done badly. If not, it has no physical effect. To me that's logic, to them, apparently, heresy :p

Lol! Yes I think I would have to say no too. I would feel too much like I was taking the mick for my own amusement if I said yes :o

I don't think that they could do any harm. Maybe I'm wrong - I hadn't thought that it was a possibility.

I don't think that these thing have any effect beyond that of a placebo.

I don't think it can do any harm FC... I don't think it can do any good either ;) I wouldn't worry about it in that way, I was just being pedantic and obnoxious to them (because they were being sanctimonious and telling me his back hurt because he was "looking at them funny" :rolleyes3: )

The 'good' would, in my eyes be the socialization. I don't really think that they'll magically make his sore leg better. :p The antibiotics are doing that. :)

If you have the time to have them round, I'd say yes. It's not going to do any harm and as you say, upside is socialisation and pats/strokes from a group of people.

You may have to bite your tongue though and if they say your horse really wants to be a fireman make them leave pronto :p:D
